Kamuzu bridge on M5 road  a threat to motorists, warns DC for Salima

The District Commissioner for Salima, Rodney Simwaka, has warned the public that the road to Kamuzu Bridge on the M5 Road has been damaged.

The Damaged side of Kamuzu Bridge

The road which is from Balaka-Salima has been damaged by heavy water flows in the Linthipe River and is posing a threat to road users as the road and the bridge may be cut off anytime.

According to Simwaka, the council has been reporting on the threat to National Roads Authority (NRA) since it started developing sometime in January but the roads Authority has taken no action.

“I have verbally reported the matter to NRA for over three times, since that threat was noticed but to date NRA has taken no action. Now we have decided to send a written report to see if they can act. But otherwise there is a danger that the road can be completely cut off,” said Simwaka.

Simwaka said that the council cannot do anything serious on the matter apart from reporting to NRA as the road is under NRA.

According to the report seen by Mana, water flowing in Linthipe River is severely damaging the embankment of the M5 Road at Kamuzu bridge on western side of the northern approach to the bridge resulting to the exposure of a quarter of the abutment.

One road user Japhet Kuweruza said that it would be better if NRA acted on the situation before the bridge and the road are finally separated.

“I wonder why we tend to be reactive than proactive, the damage has been developing for a sometime now and I wonder why no-body seem to care,” said Kuweruza

When contacted, Public Relations Officer for NRA Portia Kajanga said she was aware of the damage on the road.

“I can confirm that there has been some scouring on the Kamuzu Bridge on M5 in Salima. This has been caused by the ever increasing water levels which affected one lane of the bridge,” said Kajanga.

She added, “Our contractor, Einstein (Construction Limited) is already on the site to rectify the situation, however all traffic is able to flow.’

Meanwhile cars are using only one lane of the bridge as a precaution since the damage has affected one quarter of the other lane.

Malawians,do you think that without your idiotic Banda Nyasalanders could not have kickedout British colonialism and imperialism? Malawi is free today eventhough confused,is not because of Banda alone,in fact, when he landed at Chileka Airport in 1958,people were already in high morale Banda or no Banda and by then,he could not speak a word in his own Chichewa. This underlines the fact that he was unprepared warrior and a confused spurious Malawian. What makes me wonder is that why do Malawians respect this killer to the extent that we see the name Banda everywhere: Banda Stadium,Banda Int’l Airport,Banda Hospital,Banda mausoleum,Banda Bridge,Banda Roads, so on and so forth.Does it mean that Banda is Malawi’s GOD? Is he the only one who fought for Malawi’s nationhood? Why do we stoop so low for this indecent rogue in his 6ft deep palace. In Kenya a similar episode engulfed the minds of the people under Kenyatta’s corrupt and brutal kleptocratic regime when they regarded Kenyatta as a MESSIAH as their friends in Malawi still regard Banda as a small GOD.Soon after a new President in Kenya was installed into power Dr.Mwai Kibaki, forthwith he ordered the exhumation of Dedani Kimathi who is highly recognised as the greatest fighter for Kenya’s independence struggle under the gallant MAU MAU FREEDOM MOVEMENT.Under Kenyatta,Dedani was buried at the Nairobi Prison graves, right now visit Kenya’s cities or towns, you would see Dedan’s statues, pictures and all what he deserved,in short,Dedani is the greatest freedom fighter whose MAU MAU movement vanquished British imperialisn and in Malawi,it is not Banda that brought nationhood in Malawi,it is the people of Malawi under their young brilliant leaders such as Orton Chirwa,Kanyama Chiume,Masauko Chipembere,Yatuta Chisiza,Dunduzu Chisiza,David Lubadiri,James Sangala,Augustine Bwanausi,Attati Mphakati,Rose Chiwambo,Vera Chirwa,Mai Mlanga,Aleke Banda,Q.Chiwambo and so many other patriots.Banda was put into power by foreign powers as their secret service operater. For your information,Dedani has now been buried at the grounds of his forefathers and we wish Banda from the Lilongwe’s hero acres and burry him at Zomba prison graves because he is a criminal barbarian.MALAWIANS,KNOW YOUR HISTORY!!!!!!!

Bad photography. There is distortion of the land marks. It does not show where the road joins the bridge or direction the road is going and direction of the river in relation to the position of the damage, for one to appreciate the actual location of the damage.
