KB title defence continues to flounder with defeat at Silver

Being the defending Super League champion seems to carry a heavy burden for Kamuzu Barracks as their title defence continues to prove flimsier than a wendy-house, as unpredictable as last season’s stunning triumph.

KB have stuttered in defence of their title

The soldiers are yet to discover just how damn tricky it is to pick up where you left off after the effects of those champagne celebrations have worn off.

The champions have dropped from 10th to 12th following the Sunday’s defeat 0-2 at the hands of Silver Strikers.

They have lost two games and the first defeat was against Wanderers during the opening day of the league at Bingu National Stadium.

They have dropped two points which could have pushed them forward and to cement their title ambitions further.

However, the Zomba-based soldiers lead might be over soon as giants are now closing in the gap and third place Nyasa Big Bullets has reduced it to two points and have a game in hand.

Bullets 2-0 win over Mzuni in Nchalo made them move position from position six to third with 10 points from five games.

Be Forward Wanderers have brightened their title ambitions this season with a second win over much improved second placed, Premier Bet Wizards 1-0 at Mulanje Park.

They are now six 6 points from two games and they have moved from position 12 to seven with four games in hand in order to catch up with leaders Red Lions.

Airtel Top 8 Champion, area 47 based Silver Strikers have moved away from relegation zone and are now 10th on the log following a sounding victory over KB at Civo stadium.

The Bankers have recorded their first win of the season following their two away draws against Wizards and Tigers during the first week of the season.

Wizards have maintained the second slot despite their 0-1defeat against Wanderers at Mulanje Park, with 11 points from six games.

However the stay in the four could be over very soon as their next fixtures are proofing to be tough to them, they will date rejuvenated Bullets and face stubborn boys of Mzuzu, Mzuni away from home.

New comers, Chitipa United are still anchoring the log with a point and they lost to Moyale Barracks 1-0 on Sunday at Mzuzu stadium.

Battle for relegation has now started with Blantyre united are position 14 with three points from five games, Civil are 15th with three points from 5 games and are yet to register a win and Chitipa United are 16th with a point from 6 games played.
