Kukoma Diamonds registers two wins in Rainbow Paints

Kukoma Diamonds have intensified their mission to defend the Rainbow Paints Southern Region League, registering two wins against Polytechnic and Serenity Stars.

Kukoma Diamonds centre Sheila Dimba on duty.

The defending champions massacred Polytechnic 120-9 baskets on Friday in a one-sided affair at Blantyre Youth Centre, before clipping Serenity Stars with 78-40 baskets 24 hours later on the same court.

Diamonds have their evergreen shooter, Jessica Sanudi to praise, as she was outstanding in notching baskets.

She was cool-calm every time she possessed the ball near the goal posts.

Other notable players who caused havoc to the students included Bridget Kumwenda, who acts as the engine room for the team as well as Caroline Mtukule.

Diamonds Coach, Griffin Saenda jnr, was on cloud nine stating that they are on the right path to defend their title.

“We want nothing than to defend this title. These are the type of games that we need; to score more baskets, because at the end of the tournament, they also count,” he said.

Saenda said his team is improving and hoping for better results and performances in games to come.

For the students, they are finding the going very tough in the League as they have not registered any victory out of more than 6 games which they have played so far.

On Saturday, they also lost with 54-26 to Chilomoni Sisters.

Polytechnic captain, Israellah Chirwa, conceded that they are finding it tough but assured their fans that come next season, it will be a changed side.

In other encounters, Shizaella Queens won against Young Professional with 69-23 baskets.

However, they lost to Thunder Queens by 62-27 baskets.

The battle for points resumes on Tuesday as giants Thunder Queens and Tigresses have to sort each other out at Blantyre Youth Centre.
