All set for women’s volleyball tournament at BYC

A total of 10 volleyball teams from across the country are expected to compete in a ladies invitational volleyball Tournament to be held at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) from the 30th of September to 1st October.

The annual event which is running with the theme of “Break the limits and live the passion” will have teams from all regions of the country participating in the tournament.

Vice Chairperson of the Ladies Invitational Volleyball Tournament Organising Committee, Fannie Kanyenda described the event as a means of uplifting the standard of play for women volleyball in the country.

“This tournament will allow women in the sport to take the initiative and become proactive in organizing themselves in order to build a strong pool for the national team” Explained Kanyenda

Kanyenda added that this is the second ladies invitational tournament that they have hosted with support from well wishers in cash or kind.

“This event is about women empowerment and promoting the participation of girls into sports so as to prevent negative behaviours that put their lives at risk” She said

Kanyenda further explained that the tournament is to the tune of MK 2,000,000 with the first, second and 3rd position receiving MK500,000, MK350,000 and MK250,000 respectively including individual awards such as Best Blocker, Young and upcoming player ,Best receiver, Best spiker and Most valuable player.

The teams slated to participate in the tournament this year are from the north, Katoto Queens, Moyale ladies and eagle craws ladies, from the centre, Kamuzu Barracks ladies, Blue Eagles and NRC and from the south, Blantyre Gemz, Hella girls, Poly Aces and Bangwe sisters.
