Kumbatira booted out as MACRA boss

President Peter Mutharika has booted out Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Director General Andrew Kumbatira.

According to Malawi NewsNow, Kumbatira has been redeployed to Malawi Postal Corporation as Post Master General.

Kumbatira previously held the position of Post Master General before he was posted to MACRA.

According to the report, the current Post Master General, Godfrey Itaye will move to become Director General at MACRA.

But in an interview with Capital Radio on Wednesday, Kumbatira said he was not aware of the move.

“I don’t know where these reports are coming from,” said Kumbatira.

Asked if he was still boss at Macra, Kumbatira told Capital Radio: “I am at home.”

Minister of Information, Kondwani Nankhumwa could not confirm the move.

“We don’t have such an issue at the table,” Nankhumwa told the radio.

He said the matter is “speculation until the official letter comes on the table.”

Sources at Macra told Nyasa Times that Kumbatira has bid farewell to them, saying he is heading back to MPC.

It is not fair to be hounding govt officers with removals and creating unneccessary tension around in an effort to create news for your publications.
