Lilongwe ladies land golf glory: Lift Inter-club crown
Lilongwe Golf Club’s ladies team have been crowned champions of the 2026 Ladies Inter-club Golf Tournament, seeing off five rival clubs with a superb 362 gross at Kasasa Golf Course in Nkhotakota.

The triumph earned the team a tidy K2.7 million prize purse, while runners-up Blantyre Sports Club had to settle for K2.1 million after carding 372 gross. Third-placed finishers, who shot 374 gross, walked away with K1.8 million.
Cabinet minister Roza Mbilizi – who doubled up as guest of honour at today’s prize-giving ceremony and competed for Blantyre Sports Club – heaped praise on the winners, telling the crowd that sport offers a powerful way of overcoming life’s challenges.
The tournament’s long-time backer, Ethanol Company Limited, also expressed delight at how the competition unfolded, with chief executive Lusubilo Chakaniza hailing another successful edition after seven straight years of sponsorship.
Lilongwe Golf Club lady captain Mirriam Nankhuni admitted the win came as a surprise, revealing the field had been fiercely competitive and victory had been far from guaranteed.
“It was tough and we did not expect to win,” she said, crediting a strong opening day for giving her side the belief to push on and clinch the title.
Meanwhile, Golf Union of Malawi’s Mercy Kamanga insisted the sport was on the up, pointing to the rollout of new initiatives such as handicaps as a major factor – despite some golfers initially dragging their feet over the changes.
