Lucius Banda, Ammara Brown, Lulu to headline Celebrate Africa concert
Over 15 local and international artists have been lined up to perform at the Celebrate Africa concert slated for Lilongwe next month.
Legendary musician Lucius Banda, Zimbabwe’s popular singer Ammara Brown and gifted performer Lulu are expected to lead the pack of headliners for the gig slated for Civo Stadium on Saturday, March 2 2019.
Celebrate Africa is a music event held in different parts of Africa to fundraise money for the Angels Across Africa Organisation, which aims at challenging inequalities faced by disadvantaged and marginalised communities, especially children and youths in Africa.
“With live performances from talented acts from Malawi and surrounding countries, this one will be a show not to be missed,” Angels Across Africa founder Sheila Mkhumba says in a message posted on the organisation’s website.
The England-based humanitarian, who is also a singer best known as Malaika, adds: “The aim of the concert is to raise as much money as we can so that we can help challenge inequalities faced by disadvantaged and marginalised communities especially children and youths in Malawi”.
According to Malaika, who will also perform at the event, the long term goal is to build an eco-sustainable youth centre to help improve the lives of the disadvantaged youths and children.”
Other artists billed to perform at the inaugural Celebrate Africa concert are Roki and Discord from Zimbabwe, Oga Family from Zambia and Malawi’s own talented performers Nepman, Kell Kay, Wendy Harawa, Sam Smack, DJs Rubbie, Wayne and Tawa, among others.There will also be traditional dances to spice up the show.
Advance tickets are already available online via Web Tickets Malawi at K8,000 and on the day of the event fans will pay K10,000 at the gate.
Angels Across Africa started in 2015as a small group that focused on attending to the needs of children in the remote village of Chisusu in Lilongwe and has grown solely on the generosity of individual and collective donations.
“Unfortunately, our group has received no financial support from the Malawi Government as there is currently no funding permitted for our organization. However, the government has permitted our group to build permanent infrastructure on the village land after watching our group’s continual efforts in assisting children in need. With permission to build, we now face the need for funding for basic building materials, such as concrete, bricks, and steel,” Mkhumba states.
