Lucius Banda blasts DPP defectors: ‘Recycling bad politics’

Former member of Parliament (MP) for Balaka North and UTM Director of Campaign, Lucius Banda, has taken a swipe at Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials who have started defecting to political parties in the Tonse Alliance government in search of opportunities.

Lucius:How will they feel to take up positions at the expense of those that toiled for victory?

Banda, writing on the social media, stresses that he does not have respect for people who dump their colleagues after losing an election to join a winning team.

“I am yet to understand how it feels to dump your colleagues after losing elections and join the winning team? Honestly, I have no respect for such people. And how do they feel when they take up positions at the expense of those that toiled and sweated for the victory?” he says.

Banda, a renowned music icon, boasts to have been in the opposition for 16 years and remains reliable and has never joined a ruling party ‘even when it meant seating alone in parliament’.

“Yes, democracy is the game of numbers, but somehow some numbers are not worth it. Especially when they come after elections. Some people need to learn to stick to their party so that our democracy must grow. If all republicans would join the democrats after every elections they win, then American democracy wouldn’t keep on being the world’s model,” he says.

“It is time some of these people be told the truth. We need to be decent. Let our choices determine the future we will live. If we chose a losing team let’s stick by and cry with our colleagues after the game. Don’t suddenly jump and join the other team. And if I were the leader, I would know exactly what you will do when I lose in future,” Banda emphasizes.

Good point Lucius

Malawi belong to the citizens

Those who are joining UTM and MCP they want to know what is happening in the inner circle of these parties so that they can give their remaining colleagues in DPP some information, and start rebuilding their DPP.Remember UTM was formed because of the mistaskes dpp was doing, just be clever .These people didn’t not believe that their party can lose an election, it’s possible for a ruling party to lose, ndinawonera pa Kamuzu Banda ataluzire Kwa Che Bakili Muluzi and now Peter Munthalika waluza Kwa Tonse alliance.I didn’t include Joyce Banda on the list coz,she was finishing their term of office.Peoples… Read more »

But Mr Banda, without defectors there would never be UTM, PP, DPP, or even UDF, all these people came from from somewhere, so in politics this is normal, deal with it, leave with it. that habit is not going anywhere..

Exactly, defecting from ones party is not professional politics. However, I would rather Bwana Lucius Banda to protest this trend withing the party. It indeed annoys supporters. These are the same people who fought tooth and nail; more or so that they even insulted the winning Alliance. Now they want to join Tonse Alliance. Too bad! They must be vetted because we do not know their motive.

Good point Mr. Lucious Banda infact they should not be given any room – such people are very dangarous – where were they when others were fighting? – infact these same guys were fifghting against the Tonse Alliance. These are traitors Zimba is a traitor and anyone who is going to do the same is a traitor in other words they are scavengers they want to enjoy the meat which others have killed.

In fact we don’t want political prostutes. This guy wants to join UTM from dpp, pls he is not welcomed. Let him stay there or else he should start his own political party.
Lucious thanks for bringing up this great point. We need Malawians to be like you that.have no fear to say the truth. Tisamafinyike ndi mahule amenewa awona chani ndipo analikuti. Samadziwa kuti dpp ndi mbava poyamba? Ufuna usokoneza zipani zakhale basi. Uwona nyekhwe. I wonder if Chilima is to accept that.

Lucius, you are right only that you forgot to ask political parties to borrow a leaf from the DPP who are on record to have once turned down Zikhale Ng’oma’s application to join DPP soon after getting into power in 2014.
Congratulations Lucius on that divine observation.

So DPP turned down Zikhale’s application and accepted Uladi Mussa’s application?

Good point. This can be stopped by implementing new laws. People that cross the floor should leave their seats behind since those seats were won on the other party’s ticket. When you cross or defect, your seat should be null and void and a by-election should be held for that seat.
