MACOHA calls for business management skills for people with disabilities
People with disabilities need to have business skills for them to venture into different businesses to live a normal and independent life.
The remarks were made by Davie Banda, Programs Officer for Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA) in Ntchisi.
“The Handicapped are supposed to be empowered in different ways including giving them business skills so that they do not become destitute in our societies. They need to be self-reliant by involving themselves in various businesses,” said Banda.
The programs officer said this Wednesday during the opening of a two day business management training for persons with disabilities in Ntchisi.
Banda said his office organized the training considering that most of the physically challenged people in the district who went for various vocational skills trainings did not go through formal business management training.
“We want them to manage their businesses well and make profits at the end. Our main aim is to ensure that they are living happily like anyone else.” he said.
Fredrick Mbaluko, a participant, who is in tinsmith business, said the training would help in running their businesses well especially now that there is high competition on quality at the market.
He said in the past they have been running their businesses ignorantly but with the management skills gained, there was hope that their businesses would boost to another level.
“We did not know about market identification and customer care and other skills but now with the skills we will be able to do our businesses professionally and make good proceeds.” said Mbaluko.
Ntchisi MACOHA office drew participants from all the seven Traditional Authorities of the district.
