Mafco beat Wizards to move one step up: Malawi TNM Super League

A first half goal which came in the 43 minutes through  Emmanuel Chipeta header was enough to allow Mafco to move from position 8 to 7 with 28 points from 19 games in the 2017 TNM super league standings after collecting maximum points over Premier Bet Wizards in a match which was played on Sunday at Chilomoni Stadium.

Mafco celebrate in one of their victories

Mafco went into the field of play with anger after losing 2 nil to Be forward Wanderers in their first away game on Saturday at Balaka Stadium through Essau Kanyenda and Joseph Kamwendo’s goals.

Wizards loss against Mafco has taken the team to 5 consecutive losses in the second round of the elite league and they are stuck on position 13 for over two months with 19 points from 20 games and it is just remaining with one step to reach relegation zone.

In Sunday’s match Wizards looked more hungry especially in the second half as they were coming wave after wave in Mafco’s half searching for net.

Strikers Patrick Phiri, Misheck Bottimani and midfielder Frank Mlimanjira produced powerful shots on Mafco’s goal but the Salima soldiers goalkeeper Jailos Kapalamula was always alert and managed to save all the shots.

In a post match interview Wizards Technical Director Peter Mponda said he was impressed with the team’s performance against Mafco because the players managed to play their beautiful football and created more chances unlike in the previous games.

“Yes we’ve lost but honestly I can not blame my players today because they have tried their best only that lucky was not on our side. I can now see some positive improvement and am sure very soon we’ll go back to our winning ways though we are on pressure with these losses but things will be ok in our camp,” he said.

Mafco’s second fixture is against Chitipa United at Chitowe while Wizards will take on Mzuni F.C  at Mulanje Park Stadium and both matches are expected to be played on Sunday.
