Magistrate bemoans rise in sexual offences: Jails man, 45  to 8  years for defiling girl, 4

The Nkukula Magistrate Court In Lilongwe has convicted and sentenced 45 year old man Dickson Banda to eight years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) after being found guilty of defiling a four year old girl.

Banda: Jail for sex offendor

State Prosecutor Sergeant Charity Munkhondya proved beyond reasonable doubt that Banda indeed defiled the girl on 14th April 2017 despite pleading not guilty after the state paraded four witnesses who testified against the accused.

While passing her judgement, Magistrate Cecilia Onsewa bemoaned the high prevailance of cases of assault toward young children.

Onsewa said this does not only traumatise the victim during commission of the offence but also in their respective entire lives.

She therefore said such people deserve stiff punishment inorder to detar other would be offenders and to serve as a lesson to the
convicts.

Banda hails from Chibwaila Village, T/A Mwase in Kasungu.

Observations have shown that harsh jail sentences havefailed to curb defilement and related sexual offences which are seemingly on the rise.

Meanwhile, the same Nkukula Magistrate Court is pursuing a case of a 75 year old granny who is answering charges of defiling his four year old grand daughter.

The court through State Prosecutor Sergeant Esnart Phiri from Kanengo Police heard that the suspect Bernard Banda defiled the victim after enticing her with a peace of bread at Mgona Township in Lilongwe.

He hails from Katelera Village, T/A Pemba in Salima District.

A latest United Nations (UN) Report reveals that two out of three children with some as young as one years old experience different violations perpetrated by people entrusted to take care of them.
