Malawi College of Medicine probe ‘sex for degrees’ reports
College of Medicine has swiftly moved in to investigate reports that some of its lecturers were luring female students into sex for better grades during examinations.
The investigations follow serious allegations in social media platforms, with some reports naming the suspected lecturers.
The college said it has since instituted an independent inquiry into the allegations.
“We will take all appropriate actions when investigations are completed and the truth is established,” says the statement in part.
The college says it will provide support to any alleged victim and all those affected by this.
The statement says the college does not condone any form of sexual harassment including sexual abuse whether among students or staff or staff against students or vice versa.
“It is morally, ethically and academically wrong and abhorrent and no human being deserves to go through this,” says the statement.
The statement says as a constituent college of the University of Malawi, the college is guided by Unima’s gender equality policy which clearly stipulates of zero tolerates on sexual harassment.
The college also says it is governed by other regulations such as conditions of service for staff as well as rules and regulations for students which state that sexual harassment and harassment of any sort is prohibited.
Its not only in mw these things happening. In Nigeria, A lecturer at UNILAG was suspended because of such conduct. Another lecturer at University of Ghana was also implicated in the same after investigations by BBC. This bad practice is almost in each and every institution of higher learning across Africa.
So this college thinks it’s wise, hehedeee. Not lecturers even those whose hymen were torn, their certificates shod be withdrawn. Osangoti lecturers pliz. Think like intellectuals. Its not only this one.My friend at MCA Blantyre and Lilongwe has had the same system.Mr Chavula,I am told used the same system,after his colleagues discovered it he resigned.In Blantyre Mr gidion Kalumbu the Director has been using the same,also told by my friend a lecture at MCA kkk

The only way remedy to deal with this practice is to avoid co edu. because this will force the govt to employ female Lectures to teach female students and male Lectures to teach male students.Apo bii izi sizizatha
Is this any news at all? This is the oldest profession every where. Most women/girls are not as bright as they would let us believe.
But, then, do we expect a girl to spend four years at college and subsequently come out with nothing?
True all female graduates you see in the country are product of bottom grades.
Deal ruthlessly with these beasts. They deserve prison time. Sexual abuse, abuse of power, corruption the list goes on and on.
This conduct by lecturers is not new in Malawi. Chancellor College is known to be a leader in sexually transmitted degrees. Have a closer look at the Law and Economics Departments of this college as well.
A friend of mine, long time ago, kumulembera msikana assignemet cha ku Law komweko, msikana kukhonza bwino. The one who wrote the assignment, iye being male was told by the same lecturer kuti your English is poor. Imagine! Lecturer sanadziwe kuti shasha anali mnyamatayo popeza assignment ya donayo analemba ndi mnyamata yemweyo.
All colleges do this. A rotten education system enafe tinamenya degree ya credit thru our nose
Sex for degree? is tis report right? How can one lecturer promise a man or woman that if you sleep with me you will have a degree.
While this is not acceptable, we also have to be serious about allegations which sometimes students make.
This is an ongoing practice in all colleges .Chanco is number one
