Malawi national football team has plummeted five places down the Fifa rankings from 88 to 93 in the latest release.
The team has however dropped just one place in Africa from 25 to 26 and fifth in the Cosafa Region from fourth behind South Africa, Zambia, Angola and Mozambique.
The drop have been attributed to the team’s inactivity since they last played their international game against Ethiopia in the Africa Cup of Nations crucial qualifier on November 19.
Malawi were held to a goalless draw but failed to qualify as Algeria failed to do them a favour by conceding to a controversial 2-0 loss to Mali.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has disclosed that it will line up a friendly game during the Fifa sanctioned days between March 23 to March 31.
The CAF Africa Cup of Nations which was played between January 19 to 12 played a big role in determining the rankings despite that there was no movement in the top 10.
Ivory Coast have move to 20th in the world and second in Africa having won the Africa Cup of Nations after rising eight places while Ghana losing finalists are on position 25 in the world but third in Africa.
