Malawi FA mourns the loss of ex referee Kafatiya

Dark cloud has engulfed Malawi Football following the death of former FIFA referee Charles Kafatiya who died on Tuesday at Mlambe Hospital after a short illness.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced through it’s  Facebook page: “We regrets to announce the death of former FIFA Referee and former FAM Executive Member Charles Kafatiya who passed on this morning at Mlambe Hospital in Lunzu, Blantyre.”

Fam described the late Kafatiya as a dedicated serviceman to the game of football more especially in the refereeing department where he served as an Instructor.

FAM President Walter Nyamilandu on behalf of the entire football family also send his deepest condolences to the Kafatiya family.

Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda paid tribute to the former whistle man

“As FAM, we have lost a committed Referees
Instructor and we send our heartfelt condolencesto the bereaved family, friends and the entire sports family. Burial details will be communicated later,” Gunda was quoted on Fam page.

The remains of late Kafatia was expected to be taken to Masasa in Dedza today where burial will take place tomorrow.
