Malawi govt still unaware of projects to get finances from K4bn

Officials from the ministries of Finance and Local Government confirmed that they do not have projects which are to be financed by the controversial K4 billion.

Muhlabase Mughogho: Guidelines clear

Ministry of Finance spokesperson Davies Sado said officials from the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development were well placed to respond.

“There are guidelines which were put in place on how to disburse and use the money so the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development,” said Sado.

He said the ministry of Finance would just finance the projects after they are identified.

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development spokesperson Mulhabase Mughogho said her ministry is not responsible for identifying the projects.

“The guidelines clearly say area development committees would identify the projects,” said Mughogho.

Some civil society organisations are pushing for the resignation of Finance minister Goodall Gondwe, saying he has failed to explain where he got the K4 billion which the government wants to splash to each constituency.

Gondwe and the government say the finance minister cannot resign.

The issue has deeply divided the civil society organisations with some of them calling for peaceful demonstrations on March 27 whilst others say there is no need for demonstrations.

Mr author of this article, don’t make me laugh. When you say that there is divisions among civil society, don’t you know those pro government individuals masquerading as activists are just stooges of DPP who are always there to defending government on everything? They are not civil societies per se. They are just mercenaries. You would have said there is a disagreement between civil society organization and a burch of DPP stooges.

Well, now look, Goodall Gondwe should be the first person in this country to advise people that planning is the first thing to do in fiscal budgeting. Abale ngakhale pa khomo, mwina chisilu koma, ndani angaike salary apo basi ati we should be using ndalama without planning? Goodall and DPP thugs should own up to this scsm. They should STOP making excuses that do not make sense. What Goodall and Nankhumwa did was in fact REAL ACTS of conmen in gangsters world. “Dupe unsuspecting individuals, rip them off, then later say “but you signed the deal?” It is called “playing… Read more »

So funds have been allocated to projects not yet identified or approved by Area Development Committees (ADC’s). This is day light robbery by the politburo. I wouldn’t be surprised if funds have been transferred to MP’s personal accounts. I guess the question should be whether they have received MK20 million or MK40 each.
