  1. Since the thugs killed Commercial Farmer Yiannakis, the word on the street among Greek and Italian farmers, who would be enticed to invest in Malawi is that Malawi is a red zone or no-go zone. The good reputation we had a country, in the circle of farmers anyway, is tarnished and evaporates just like that.

But most importantly, a life was lost. This man was contributing to the community – supported many families personally, paid wages and taxes. And, above all, he was a good man. The large amount of money he kept was for wages and other expenses. If he could have paid everybody to his/her account, he would have.
Like other business persons, Mr yiannakis was forced to keep large amounts of money at home, despite the security risks.
In effect, our backwardness contributed to his death, and that is what potential investors talk about. Banks are far and between, especially in the “provinces” or the hinterland. Visa, MasterCard and other credit cards are for the (business) elite only. A laborer may not be literate or confortable enough to deal in a bank account. And Mpesa is just for small money.
All this is a contributing factor to the death of Mr Yiannakis. He came to this country to help us, no doubt, even if also he came to help himself too.
We, as a country and as his hosts, failed HIM AND HIS FAMILY.

  2. I doubt if they have arrested the rightful guys. Nanga anapha Njauju mukukanika bwanji? Shame
