Malawi presidential hopeful AA Muluzi disowns Facebook account
Atupele Austin (AA) Muluzi, who is presidential candidate for the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) has raised alarm over fake Facebook account bearing his names and images.
He said the Facebook account of ‘Atupele Muluzi’ is not his and asked the public to ‘ignore and treat it as mischievous.’
The presidential hopeful however said he uses the platform but under the account of Atupele Austin Muluzi.
“My Facebook account is Atupele Austin Muluzi,” he said.
Nyasa Times understands that the fake ‘Atupele Muluzi’ account was created by his ditracters to be writing bad things to tarnish his image.
Atupele, who has vowed to practice civilized politics , condemned activities of impostors who run fake accounts on social media, citing the recent incident where President Joyce Banda also denied the involvement or existence of any Facebook account for her.
An online journalist Justice Mponda was arrested in connection to the fake Facebook account of President Banda.
Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them.
Meanwhile, Nyasa Times also understands that deputy minister Ralph Jooma has also become another victim of Facebook impersonation.
Law experts say impersonation is a criminal offence punishable by law.
