Malawian man jailed 10 years for defiling stepdaughter, caught by wife
A 30-year-old man who defiled his seven-year- old step daughter has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by Mwanza Magistrate Court .
According to Mwanza Police Spokesperson, Victoria Chirwa, on April 10, Reford Menyere defiled his under aged step daughter when his wife was in a bathroom.
Chirwa said the incident happened when the convict’s wife gave him her new born baby to carry as she wanted to take a bath.
“Upon entering the bathroom, the wife realized she had forgotten soap and called her daughter to take it to her. The daughter did not respond and the mother decided to go take the soap herself.
“The woman was very devastated when she caught her husband [sexually abusing] her daughter,” she said.
Chirwa said the mother was so furious and reported the matter to the village head who advised her to report it to police.
Medical examination at Mwanza District Hospital conducted confirmed the child had been defiled.
Menyere, who later appeared before court, pleaded guilty to defilement charge which is contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
Passing sentence, First Grade Magistrate, Ranwell Mangazi said defilement cases were on the increase in the district, hence the need for tough punishment to offenders.
Both the culprit and the victim hail from Makanani Village in Senior T/A Nthache in Mwanza.
