Man arrested for sex assault on niece
A 24-year old man was arrested in Mzimba for alleged sexual assault of his 14-year old niece.
Mzimba Police publicist Gift Nyirongo said the suspect, Yohane Chabinga, who hails from Yothonya Village in Traditional Authority Chindi’s area in the district, has been charged with rape contrary to Section 132 of the Penal Code.
Nyirongo said that the incident followed a funeral in their village and that the victim’s mother had gone to the bereaved house for a night vigil.

“The suspect knew that the victim’s mother would not return (that night) and went to her house where he switched on the lights and forced himself into the young girl,” said the spokesperson for Mzimba Police.
He said the victim reported the incident to her mother and that a medical examination conducted at Euthini Rural Hospital confirmed that the girl was indeed raped.
Chabinga would appear in court soon to answer charges of rape, whose maximum sentence is 14 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL).
