Man commits suicide because wife starved him of sex: Malawi Police ask couples to seek counsel

A 33 year old man identified as Genesis Simkhoza has taken his own life by hanging himself to the roof of his house after his wife refused to have sex with him.

Love story suicide

Mchinji police station public relations officer, Inspector Kaitano Lubrino said the deceased, on August 2 arrived home late at around 1900 hours whilst drunk a development which did not go down well with his wife, Blandina Kajawa 29.

“The reports that we have according to Blandina, her husband requested to sleep with her as a husband and wife of which she refused. Following the denial, misunderstandings erupted between the two, a situation that prompted his wife to leave for her parents the same night.

“The wife thought it wise to inform the relatives about her husbands’ behaviour and it is believed that he willfully damaged and destroyed both windows and doors of his house before taking his life,” he said.

Postmortem conducted by Mchinji District Hospital revealed that death was due to strangulation.

Genesis Simkhoza hailed from Malindima village in the area of Traditional Authority Simphasi in Mchinji district.

Meanwhile the police in the district are appealing to the general public to avoid resorting to suicide but instead seek counsel from relevant members of the society when disagreements erupt between them as couples.
