Man wanted for theft in South Africa identified after car crash in Malawi
A South African national who lost R435,000 (over 20 million) from his former servant, a Malawian national, has identified his wanted suspected who has been arrested after he was involved in a car crash at Linthipe in Malawi.
Police said the South African national flew in to identify the man on his hospital bed. His verified particulars indicate he is Madalitso Mphande, 30 from Kakumbi village in Nkhatabay.
According to information from the Malawi Police Service, Mphande allegedly stole the money from his boss in South Africa where he was working last year and fled to Malawi.
The employer travelled from South Africa to Mphande’s home village in Nkhatabay but he did not find the suspect
He later reported the matter to police who had to include Mphande on wanted lists of suspected criminals.
Mphande, who has been at large for a year , was involved in a recent accident at Linthipe as he was heading to Tanzania with his colleague to pick cars.
He was identified whilst admitted at Dedza district hospital and his ex-boss was notified following a K1 million reward that the employer offered.
The boss did not hesitate but to fly to Malawi to see the man that has been on the run for over a year.
Police say they will take Mphande to court soon after being discharged and he is expected to answer the charge of theft

Am I missing something here!! the crime happened in South Africa and Malawi Police want to take the guy to a Malawi court??? come on!! Malawi Police what are you smoking? the guy has not broken any law in Malawi. He can only be tried in a South African court where the crime was committed. Please advise the white dude to go open a criminal case in South Africa
Malawi Police please don’t goof. send the guy to south Africa only at the request of the south African govt. the guy has committed no crime in Malawi. under which section of laws of Malawi are you going to charge him?
