Mapesi Gondwe authors book: ‘To strive for African greatness’
Economist and former MP for Rumphi West, Vincent Mapesi Gondwe, has written a book titled “To Strive for African Greatness”, which he said is an attempt to bring potential comrades to salvage the African continent.
“Despite great achievements by great persons, our life on earth is far from being perfect. There are still injustices and sufferings. We are still brutal and destructive. People still starve in the midst of plenty food.
“People still take pride in obvious absurdities. Fraud, Corruption, Crime, Prostitution and Gambling in the money markets are established ingredients of current civilization. Therefore we will need Messiahs,” reads an extract from page 28 of the book.
Gondwe touts he 150 pages book, which will be on the market between March and April 2012, as a must read for young educated Africans.
The Harvard trained scholar told Nyasa Times that his intention is to awaken a burning desire in the educated young Africans between the ages of 18 – 35, to lift the African people from under dog status and vulnerable state to heights of shining achievements and influence.
“Being that vulnerable, would we not become slaves again, may be in a different form still slaves – may be on a new planet. To me, we – the Africans – had gotten the worst consequences of that social and political vanity,” reads an extract from the foreword of the book.
Mapesi Gondwe was known for his constructive contributions in the National Asembly when he represented Aford.
