Martse promises to ‘make it up’ to fans after no show in Karonga
Lilongwe-based urban artist Martse on Sunday disappointed urban music lovers in Karonga after failing to turn up for a show slated for Blue Beach Hall.
Martse—real name Martin Nkhata—is famous for his number hits such as Mwapinduranji and Mwano and won the song of the year award at the urban music party in November last year.
One of the musician’s fans, Lydia Kaonga, said in an interview she was disappointed that the musician did not come to perform.
“To be honest, I was so prepared to be entertained by Martse, but I have been left disappointed that he did not turn up for the show,” she said.
The scheduled performance, which was organised by Lilongwe-based Junior Tulombolombo, pulled a large crowd from Karonga and some patrons said they had travelled from neighbouring Chitipa.
After the show failed, the patrons—who were mostly the youth—resorted to drinking and swimming around the lakeside resort.
In a telephone interview from his base, Martse—who performed in the United States with other artists in January—said he failed he to travel for the performance because of an emergency he was not prepared to disclose to the public.
He said: “I was supposed to go to Karonga, but something happened when I was coming from Lumbadzi which I do not want to disclose to the public. But I am okay.
“I even apologised to my fans through my Facebook page that I would not turn up for the show. However, no matter what, I will make up for this by doing another show probably before the end of this year.”
