Suspected thief killed by mob in Kasungu

An alleged shop lifting thief suffered the most brutal mob justice in Malawi’s tobacco growing district of Kasungu  when  irate residents took the law in their hands by  sentencing him to death with beating .

Police deputy spokesperson,Harry Namwaza said the suspected thief, whose particulars are not known yet,on Tuesday, August 9  allegedly stole  trousers in a shop behind National Bank near Kasungu Bus Depot.

The suspect left the shop without making a payment on counter upon an exit, but shop owner Denis Mtafwa saw him shop lifting.

The owner then shouted for help that saw a group of people apprehend him and started beating him.

“Upon seeing that the situation was getting out of hand, Mr Mtafwa phoned informed the police who rushed to the scene to rescue the deceased. Unfortunately, he was pronounced death upon arriving at the hospital,” Namwaza explained.

Meanwhile,police have launched investigations into the matter, but no one has been arrested so far.
