Masm boss Mapemba uses Police to harrass Nyasa Times reporter

Beleaguered Medical Aid Society (Masm) Director of Human Resources and Administration Linda Mapemba implicated in financial fraud has resorted to use Police to intimidate and threaten Nyasa Times reporter for reporting on massive financial irregularities at the society.

Mapemba: Uses cops

Mapemba instructed Detective Sub Inspector Dowe of Lilongwe Police Station to arrest Nyasa Times reporter Alfred Chauwa for reporting that Masm had fired six junior employees over fraud leaving out Mapemba and Chief Final Officer Dr Ulemu Katunga who have been implicated in fraud amounting to K15 million.

Police officer including detective Dowe visited Chauwa’s home but returned after  the reported  told him to contact his bosses if they had any queries against his story.

Dowe later on ‘invited’ Chauwa to Lilongwe Police Station so that he reveals the source of information for his stories on Masm, but Chauwa stood his ground.

Chauwa confirmed that he is being pressured to reveal his sources but he declined to do so on professional grounds.

Nyasa Times editorial management also confirmed the issue but said if Mapemba and others at Masm have a problem with their stories, they should go to court to seek redress.

“We are standing by our stories on financial irregularities at Masm, we have documentation to back us up and we will not reveal our sources because that would be unethical and unprofessional to do that,” said Nyasa Times editor.

Mapemba was using her maiden name (Namitumbo) to fleece Masm of millions of Kwachas from Masm while Katunga used the company’s credit card for personal use without approval from management.

I do not understand why the police are involved with this. There is no criminal case here, but only a civil one which can be resolved by a court.

Steal.. steal.. and steal.. until nothing is left. Steal from the rich.. Steal from the poor.. Some people should get an award for stealing and eating from others.
