MCP executive reshuffle: Mwalwanda roped in, Jumbe demoted as Chimango is back

Malawi Congress Party (MCP ) president and leader of opposition Dr Lazarus Chakwera has made some changes in the party’s National Executive Committee  (NEC ) which has seen the party roping in former cabinet ministers in Joyce Banda administration Dr Cornelius Mwalwanda and Eunice Makangala.

Mwalwanda is appointed second deputy director of economic planning and Makangala is second deputy of political affairs

The new look NEC has also seen the removal of director of campaign Felix Jumbe who mow deputise Dr Moses Khombe in strategic planning .

Veteran lawmaker Joseph Njobvuyalema who was deputy campaign director is now deputy director of International affairs which is headed by former diplomat Tony Kandiero and also deputised by another former diplomat Dr John Chikago.

Former National Assembly speaker Louis Chimango has been appointed back into the NEC as legal advisor of the party taking over from parliamentarian Lewis Chakhwantha who is now the director of youth

Other appointments are of director of Public Relations. Alekeni Odala Menyani MP  who will be deputised by Mrs Maureen Bondo and Billie Kanjira Banda MP .

Chakwera’s political strategist Linston Belekanyama is now director of Social, deputised by Dorothy Chirambo and Goodwin Mvula

Dedza East parliamentarian Juliana Lunguzi is now director of recruitment deputised by Fred Mkalangiza and Aggrey Chiumia.

Strategic Planning Director: is Dr. Moses Khombe and deputised by Elia Kamphinda Banda and Felix Jumbe.

NEC Members and Advisory to the President include veteran politicians Mai Dinala, Foloma Mwale of Mchinji, Chisenga of Kasungu, Mai Nyachunda of Mzimba.

Chakwera said  he is “ delighted” with his executive, drawn from a broad range of talents across his party.

The party needs structural transformation, not superficial /cosmetic changes. Malawians still remember the bad sides of MCP, don’t be cheated they have forgotten, no, and don’t uncover those wrongs as they surely will sink you. MARK MY WORDS. You should almost be saying MCP is a changed party and show how it is a changed party.   21. MCP, piece of advice – the problem is not composition of NEC, but mindset of the leadership. This is a party for the Chewas and NEC is very much aware of this and has embraced it. Unfortunately for MCP, other parties are able to penetrate central region while it is difficult for the party to strongly penetrate other regions (north and south). Do not punish each other within NEC but work on your brand. Jumbe is good material and demoting him is unfair treatment.
