MCP first again! Chakwera to launch 2019 election manifesto March 8

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential nominee Lazarus Chakwera who has been applauded by political commentators that he is  getting it right  in his second bid for presidency, will again be the first to launch elections manifesto on March 8 to rump up his party’s electioneering ahead of the polls on May 21  2019.

Chakwera: I have come to be your President
Chakwera and his running mate Sidik Mia : MCP getting it right

MCP spokesperson Reverend Maurice Munthali confirmed to Nyasa Times that the party manifesto launch on Friday, March 8  will be at the Bingu International Convention Centre in the Capital Lilongwe from 9am.

Munthali told Nyasa Times that Malawians can be assured that in MCP they will get what they are, overwhelmingly, looking for  “competence and honesty”  rather than grand promises and wild rhetoric.

He said  MCP understands its electorate’s concerns  and that Chakwera will deliver  his message to wavering voters through the manifesto  which provides  answers to inequality and poverty.

Chakwera knows that MCP has to do things differently this time around having been consistently coming in second at the polls. Since multi-party democracy in 1994. the party lost three presidential bids; in 1999 to Bakili Muluzi, in 2004 and 2009 to Bingu wa Mutharika.

For Chakwera this will be his second election, both as MP and presidential contestant. He was second best to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Peter Mutharika in the May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections.

Commentators have observed that Chakwera’s leadership so far shows that he learnt a lot from MCP’s past defeats.

MCP was the first party to hold its elective convention and  party primaries.

“When he was elected at the convention, he acted swiftly; to build his party in setting the tone on the political scene in the country and going on to win big in landmark By-Elections in October 2017.

“He has dealt with divisions within the party with swag and led MCP to be the first to hold a convention and the first to hold primaries ahead of May 21 elections,” wrote newspaper columnist MoseS Micheal-Phiri.

Chakwera was also the first presidential aspirant to unveil his running-mate Sidik Mia, who is also MCP vice-president, on December 2, 2018 during a rally held in Monkey Bay, Mangochi.

“By picking Mia as running mate three months to the nomination exercise Chakwera scored a point.  He must have been laughing his lungs out when some parties came out of the Comesa Hall half broken with questionable characters as running mates.

“For the past five years, Chakwera has shown that it is not in his blood to do things at the last minute and it seems he is getting it right,” Micheal-Phiri wrote.

And now Chakwera will be the first to unveil election manifesto. The early bird catches the worm.

I hope MCP will also be first to concede defeat. By participating in parliamentary elections, Chakwera knows he can’t win the presidential elections, because it is not allowed to double.

Why do you always find wrongs in everything Chakwera does? If he chose to forgo the parliamentary elections you would have said he is pompous and believes he can be president!! Being the first doesn’t mean you are the best! Let’s wait for the electorate to choose!

For MCP, this election is between GOD and chakwera. See who will win. This man rejected GOD in public. Guess what GOD will do, if you know the scriptures. He did it in 2014. He will do it again in 2019. The Bible also says the first shall be the last. He is fulfilling the scriptures. Hah ha! ha!

dont use the bible for your own good. The bible itself enforces individuals to lead the nations in. Godly way. How sure are you of what you are saying. If God called him no one can stop mcp from winning. You have a right not to believe him but know that there millions of malawians who believe in him.

Chonde, chonde, chonde let us stop mentioning God’s name carelessly. Remember He tells us that: “We shalt not take the name of the Lord our God in vain”. Iweyo when you say and I quote: “For MCP, this election is between GOD and Chakwera” are you implying that God is a presidential candidate in these forthcoming elections? Nanunso inu, this in itself, tells us that you’re possessed………………! Mind you, because of the greatness of the name of God, any use of God’s name that “brings dishonor on Him or on His character” is the same as taking His name in… Read more »

Akulu inu nzeru zanu ndi zoperewera. Simukufunikanso kukhala pa intaneti. MCP yapha anthu angati chaka chino? Nanga DPP? So in your sane mentality people should not vote MCP for things that happened 50 years ago with John Tembo’s MCP. How about all the corruption of DPP? How about the lawlessness of the CADETS? How about DPP GOVT SANCTIONED NEPOTISM. You have chosen to remain in the past and believe you me, 99.9% of the people except you and DPP zealots have chosen to move forward

Good move! Seems MCP really know what ought to be done, you have been pacesetters in most crucial moments. Tineneretu; ife fundo zanuzo tizimvera ndikuziwerenga ndithu ndi luntha. We are looking for leaders who will not deliberately leave loopholes in their manifestos and even in their set up of governing process just milk the thin cows; ordinary Malawians. We need leaders who understand that as Malawi is today needs strategies not only for normal development, Malawi needs strategies for survival as well. Leaders who can comprehend issues pertinent for the survival of Malawians and their interconnectedness. We will examine how… Read more »
