MCP in illegal water connection, fined K106 million
The opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has been implicated in illegal water connection which has forced service provider the Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) to disconnect water supply and slap the party with K106 million penalty.
LWB discovered the illegal connection at MCP headquarters in Lilongwe and subsequently disconnected water supply on Thursday November 24th, 2017.
According to LWB officials there were two water supply to the premise, one illegal and the other one legal.
However, the legal water supply was disconnected sometime back due to the party’s failure to settle a bill amounting to K6.8 million. The party has been failing to honor an agreement to settle the bill.
Instead the party has been using water illegally, and the illegal connection according to LWB has been there for the past 10 years until it was discovered last week.
Currently there is no water supply at MCP Headquarters.
Two weeks ago LWB disconnected water supply to Pacific Village and Central Medical Stores Trust after it was discovered the supply was illegally connected.
LWB, which is conducting Zero to Three Consumptions House to House Inspection Survey, discovered the illegal connections at Pacific Village which is owned by Pacific Group Properties in Area 9, and at Central Medical Stores Trust Warehouse in Area 6 owned by Manobec Limited.
Meanwhile, the Board has fined both Pacific Group Properties and Manobec Limited- being commercial customers- K1.5 million each as infringement penalties.
Apart from infringement penalties, the two customers will also have to pay other charges which include reinstatement/repair costs, Lilongwe Water Board overhead costs and calculated costs of illegal water supply as well as the outstanding bills.
The fines and other related charges are calculated based on the provisions of LWB’s by-laws.

This is a very good news but so funny, am sure those who were born 2015 can say that Chakwera is involved in this thing of Water, any way he can not run away from this since he is the Leader of the party whose office is in this story.

You say this is politics? Of course it is politics because the thieves are MCP politicians, the water stolen was used in a political headquarters house. So all the meetings which were conducted at the headquarters you were using stolen water yet patients at KCH were sometimes struggling to have a drop? A Congress, do you now see the reason for my persistence demand for full disclosure of the source of funds being used to construct an obscenely expensive mansion at Maula area? The party gets part of its funding from parliament; who knows, instead of using such funds to pay water bills to LWB the funds were diverted to pay the contractors for the maula project?
Is MCP aware that the non payment of their water bills affected service delivery by LWB that resulted into Area 18 water saga? MCP must, therefore, held fully responsible, as a defaulter and a water thief, for the water scam in Area 18.

The LWB must seize and sell the MCP head quarters in order to recover its money.After all those buildings were built by stolen money from Malawians.The MCP used to extort money from members of the public through the sell of party cards. Anyone refusing to buy an MCP membership card was not allowed to board a bus or sell his goods in a market.The Jehova’s Witnesses were forced into exile because they refused to buy the MCP party card.Others were beaten to death.
I hope those tiatambala takuda boot lickers that were accusing me of over demanding when I asked for full disclosure of the source of funding for the obscenely expensive Maula Mansion have seen sense in my demand. Let a full disclosure be made; who knows the diverted money meant for paying water bills at LWB was used for the construction of the maula house. Who knows the thefts of water by MCP from LWB resulted in LWB failing securing better service delivery which resulted in what happened with the water supply in area 18. MCP must be held fully responsible for the water saga in area 18 due to their thefty of water from LWB and their non settlement of hefty water bills.
