MCP tells Minister Dausi to resign over albinism ‘crass’ remarks

Main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has told Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Daus to apologize and resign from his position following his remarks that attacks on people with albinism has not reached crisis levels.

Dausi: Accused of making careless remarks on albino killings

Dausi said at a news conference this week that the attacks on persons with albinism were yet to get to levels where they should hold vigils at State House or seek asylum in other countries.

A video clip with Dausi remarks has gone viral on social media attracting wrath of many Malawians.

Dausi said: “When they say they want to seek asylum elsewhere, do they want to insult government? Seriously? If they [Apam] are listening to us, will they insult government? These are things coming from homes where parents are selling their biological kids and they say we are facing challenges here?

“Even if there could be a country with tight security, but if a mother is selling her own child, a young man is selling his uncle right in the homes where there is supposed to be tight security. Now they say they want to march to State House, what will they be marching for?”

But MCP spokesperson Reverend Maurice Munthali said the remarks by Dausi were irresponsible, childish and careless.

“Honourable Dausi does not fit to be a Cabinet minister, especially of Homeland Security. He needs to apologize to the people with albinism and then resign. This is embarrassing,” Munthali told Nyasa Times.

Dausi  said his remarks were not meant to belittle persons with albinism and  insisted that the issue was being politicised.

This comes barely a day after key subject in the abduction of the 14 year old boy with albinism suspect  died in police custody raised suspicion in the way the government is handling the matter.

The Association of People with Albinism in Malawi (Apam) has  also not taken the minister’s sentiments kindly, arguing that Dausi demonstrated a lack of seriousness in fulfilling duties and responsibility to protect persons with albinism.

Apam plans to hold a three-day vigil from March 6 to 8 2019 at Kamuzu Palace. The vigil is scheduled to be preceded by a solidarity march from Lilongwe Community Centre ground through Parliament Building to Kamuzu Palace where they will present a petition to the President.

MCP please don’t waste your time asking somebody to resign. At least we see your friends are reacting to all atrocities that are happening now to Albinos. We have seen that every time an Albino has been killed, the perpetrators are arrested just waiting the courts to do their job. MCP never, ever, even at once, did this. Albinos were killed during your leadership, did you arrest any person because of that? Or did you allow people to say anything regarding Albino killings? Albinos aside, there was this massive killing of Gadama, Chiwanga and the like, did you arrest anybody… Read more »

Munthu wamkulu wolankhula mopusa. Killing innocent people even taking one life that a crisis. You want all Albinos to be killed then you and your leader will call it crisis. Why did your leader send people to Tanzania to learn how to protect Albinos? Was is just to fool us? DPP you are responsible for killing Albinos. This is not politicizing the issue. Its not careless talking but it just comfirms how evil and barbaric DPP is. Your leader cannot even come out to conderm your stupid words because he is in agreement with you. MALAWIANS OPEN YOUR EYES. DPP… Read more »

I feel for Dausi, he is simply used. APM uses him to cover his dirty games. Remember the k145million, a Dausi samazidziwa ndikomwe but was used to defend APM. As Dpp they cannot even produce minutes of the meetings where they discussed the k145m, they did not know anything about it neither did they instruc t APM to open the account and become a sole signatory. Koma aDausi making press conference nkumati ” ife a DPP taganiza kuti ndalama zimenezi tibweze” Kuwafusa kuti ndalama zobwezazo muzitenga kuti because the account is frozen ? a Dausi “go” kukanika kuyankha. To salvage the tattered reputation of the DPP, APM should demonstrate that he has got the balls of a real leader; he should fire Dausi immediately.

If parents are selling their biological children in our country what does that tell you Dausi?

APAM President Kondowe is showing us that he is being used by opposition leaders to frustrate the current regime. In my understanding, Albino killing started long time back even before I was born. I remember when I was young, I used to hear that Albinos don’t die, when time reaches, they just miss. This clearly shows that the system of killing Albinos started way back during MCP regime. However, during one party system of Government, one could not come in the open to say this is happening and has reached its crisis, you will be considered a dissident. Having said… Read more »

Thank you my brother, at least there are some people out there who are looking at this politicized albino issue from my point of view. To be honest after seeing some albino individuals at MCP rallies being given a chance to speak trash about the government, i no longer feel sorry for them. Kondowe is receiving money and put it in his pocket while his brothers and sisters are being killed and abducted out there, shame on him and i can surely say,he knows something. Anyway i’m not worried about this whole thing though, for there’s only 15000 albinos in… Read more »
