MCP’s Mkaka hits at Malawi ex-president Muluzi: ‘Tonse Alliance made in heaven’

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka said the opposition grand alliance  is  ‘made in heaven’ given and that the 2019 election fraud engineered by Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)   chairwoman Jane Ansah was a blessing in disguise to unite Malawians under the Tonse alliance to redeem the country.

Mkaka said the alliance will defeat a ‘federation of two families’ of President Peter Mutharika and former president Bakili Muluzi, saying Malawians are tired of being tossed around by the two families.

He advised DPP-UDF running mate Atupele Muluzi, 41-year-old son for former president, to stop attacking MCP over atrocities in the one –party dictatorship.

Mkaka reminded the nation that former president Muluzi was secretary general-cum-administrative secretary of MCP in 1977 and was therefore responsible for any atrocities that happened that time.

“At that time I had not even started primary school. Today I am MCP secretary general. This is new MCP,” he said.

Mkaka said Muluzi promised Malawians that he would buy everyone shoes  during the campaign to multiparty democracy which he never fulfilled hence young Muluzi cannot make fresh outlandish promises such  as distributing laptops and mobile phones.

He denounced MEC for rejecting a request by the alliance to change its symbol on the ballot, saying people will still vote for their torchbearer Lazarus Chakwera even if the electoral body decides to remove the symbol and leave his face only.

Mkaka also challenged chiefs in Phalombe who he said are sponsoring violence against the opposition so that they fail to hold rallies in the district.

The rally was also attended by, among others, Citizens for Transformation Movement (CFT) leader Timothy Mtambo.

  1. It seems that the atrocities committed during the MCP era are indelible if not fresh in the minds of many Malawians. Wikipedia estimates that 18 000 people were killed during Kamuzu’s 31 years rule. It is no wonder that the whole trajectory of the fresh elections campaign has shifted to the one of demonizing each other’s opponents. It would be important for both political alliances to concentrate on issues affecting the individuals at the grassroot level than the advancement of their own political careers… Politicians… Think of the masses first or the masses won’t think of you at all

      1. Well, Kaka… You may want to discredit my point by trying to sound more academic but your argument sounds less intellectual than you have yourself believe you are an academician. With or without a quote, it is common place truth still that the atrocities committed during the MCP regime are indelible and have a severe dent on the party. Having said that, I would like to point out the current MCP crop of leadership seems promising. However, the would do better to own the party’s past mistakes, stop shifting the blame on one another and seek redress the wounds Kamuzu inflicted on Malawians as they seek to unite the country as one . Ignoring the past won’t change anything… We might as well be heading for another disaster.

It is true that the current crop of leadership is innocent but its failure to acknowledge the party’s past mistakes while shifting the blame on their opponents shows that the new leaders are only interested in advancing their political careers.

Malawi is changing guys,Tonse alliance from last year’s elections results has,55% of total votes country wide there would be little drop of support.Dpp and UDF alliance has 39% of votes country wide.Its only 6 % of which some was for invalid votes, this is the votes that people will fight for. DPP yitabera mavotes in last year’s presidential election zapangitsa anthu Kut akavote mwaunyinji pano.MCP will increase their support in their home ground.With UTM’s votes it’s a Win wether MEC commissioners wants or not.Dpp and UDF alliance will need 12% of the extra votes for them to win.Which will not come .The 39% DPP and UDF alliance has , mavotes ena ndiwomwe adaba aja, which means the real percentage of votes the DPP won is less than 38%.The Tonse alliance will increase their support countrywide.Dpp has no vision leaders always they think about shortcuts to win.For DPP and UDF alliance to win they need UTM votes and for Tonse alliance to win they need UTM votes too.So the alliance with you UTM wins the election full stop.Atupele will add little votes to DPP.And chances that DPP will lose support is high in lomwe belt because of poverty levels.People wants change.Thats why Bakili Muluzi wants to be desturbing chilima while mwana wake aziwoneka wabwino.Politics is a game.But that will not change anything.Dpp and UDF alliance will lose this time around, with a huge number of votes.Tonse alliance has big banks of support in all districts than DPP and UDF alliance right now.
