Meet 2023 MSCE Dedza Secondary School Six-Points Student, as Alumnis Association Award him

An 18 year-old Don Chikopa whose father a police officer in Mwanza and scooped six points with his classmate during 2023 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) at Dedza Secondary School has explained an ideal towards achieving this big.

An amused Don Chikopa who wants to pursue a medical career and engineering as a second choice, revealed that was prompted by positive mindset coupled with hardworking spirit to achieve great results.

Don revealed this after being awarded K300, 000 cash-prize and certification from Dedza Secondary School Alumni Association on Saturday at the school.

He explained that setting out goals before preparing for the exams helped him stay focused because became aware of what he wanted to achieve and work better towards achieving it.

“Setting goals helped me to persevere and put in the extra effort. The determination to achieve my goals propelled towards working hard with singular focus,” explained Don Chikopa.

He added, “determination negated my anxiety I might have, I was sure and ready to face the self doubt that may haunted me while studying. Everything is possible, and all what is needed have a correct mindset and skills to achieve best results.”

However, he pointed out that during studies was demotivated by poor grades in ‘certain circumstances’  which was throwing stones towards his success.

He therefore advised current students to continue working hard and aim high.

In his remarks, Central West Education Division Desk Officer for Secondary Schools Victor Sibale who was guest of honor alluded to the fact that in order for every   country to develop, there is need for quality education.

Sibale reminded all attendees that Dedza Secondary School has produced the leadership in all sectors of the country, hence the current and outgoing students work hard to surpass the record.

He then commended the collective efforts that both Alumni Association and the school show for bringing in joy through their technical and financial support on awarding of both teachers and students as a motivation factor.

“This event couldn’t take place if it was not supported by the Alumnis Association. I hear that it has an immense support, for example Pastor Edgar Chibaka who specifically choose to sponsor a category, which is commendable,” added Sibale.

Dedza Secondary School Headteacher Ramsy Stephano expressed gratitude over the support by Alumni Association and described it as”great initiative” for motivating both students and teachers to achieve more results.

“The bond which exists between hard working students and teachers is unbreakable. Sometimes, teachers offer lessons during night to ensure that learners achieve great results.” explained Stephano.

The Headteacher further said that the school is enforcing discpline measures for all than in the past, that’s why it has tremendously registered MSCE high scoring rates in the country.

Meanwhile, Haswell Solomon President for Dedza Secondary School Alumni Association highlighted that, “You can not talk of leaders in Malawi without pointing at this school which has produced brains and great minds in the country, and we think about developing the facility everyday.”

Haswell maintained the position of the Association to include teachers on award lists and described it as a success for the school which has ever produced two-six points candidates after sitting for MSCE examinations.

“We want to maintain the position of best national secondary school in Malawi. We have done it this year and now engaging the higher gear.”

He then revealed that the Association had budgeted about K7.5 million for the whole event through member’s contributions where two best students with six points went home with K300, 000 and a certification each, and best teacher got K500, 000.
