Leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Peter Mutharika has now a special political adviser, veteran politician Harry Thomson.
DPP secretary general Wakuda Kamanga said the party appointed Thomson to be Mutharika’s special political adviser because the DPP leader needs an adviser.
Said Kamanga, “Mutharika requires some special advice.”
Thomson once belonged to UDF where he was its first Secretary General and served in several cabinet portfolios. He dumped UDF to join the new defunct NDA of Brown Mpinganjira and later returned to UDF where he announced retirement form front line politics.
This year, he resurfaced from political hibernation and joined DPP before Bingu wa Mutharika died.
He was unlucky that before he saw the fruits of working with Bingu, the president died and as consolation, the party has made him Peter Mutharika’s special adviser.
Meanwhile, DPP has lost its treasurer general Sidik Mia who has defected to People’s Party.
Mia, who is also Minister of Transport, is reported to have swept the DPP structures en masse in the Lower Shire to join him in PP.
