Minister Dausi irks people with albinism: Apam pulls out of presidential task force

The Association of People with Albinism in Malawi (Apam) has pulled out of presidential task force on people with albinism membership after Homeland Security minister Nicholas Dausi said  the resurgent attackshas not yet reached crisis levels.

Dausi: Some of the victims are betrayed by their own families

Dausi said the attacks on people with albinism has not reached crisis levels to call for    vigil at State House to force authorities to look into their security demands or people with albinism to seek asylum in foreign countries.

He said what complicates the matter is that some of the victims are betrayed by their own families or relations.

The Homeland Security minister said this in the presence of Information minister Henry Mussa and the chairperson of presidential task force on people with albinism Hetherwick Ntaba at a news conference.

But Apam president Overtone Kondowe has described the remarks by Dausi as  childish and insensitive.

“This is a careless public statement,” said Kondowe.

“There is no security of people with albinism in the country. The statement is a clear indication that the government is not serious in protecting people with albinism,”  he added.

Public Affairs Committee and Human Rights Defenders Coalition have condemned the statement by Dausi.

In a separate interview, Dausi said the decision by Apam has been done on haste.

“They should rescind their decision to pull out their membership from the presidential task force. We are open to discussion. Let contact and dialogue take centre stage,” Dausi said.

The people with albinism are set to hold vigil at Kamuzu palace from March 3 for three days.

Kondowe said the association is tired of government’s insignificant efforts in fighting attacks  on people with albinism, adding it is high time government addressed their security concerns.

The association has also urged Malawians to vote wisely in the coming elections to make a difference, saying the polls present an opportunity for the people to make the country a better place for everyone.

Kondowe said if the vigils do not yield results, Apam will demand that Malawi be declared an unsafe zone and they will seek help so that  people with albinism seek asylum in other countries.

  1. A Dausitu mukutidabwitsa. Atakhala kuti waphedwa ndi mwana wanu . Can you say it has not reached alarming levels? or are you part of the beneficiaries?

  2. DAUSI DAUSI DAUSI
THIS MAN IS THE ONE WHO DID MANY EVIL THINGS IN MCP
AMAFUNA ADZIWONEKA NGATI WOCHENJERA , AMAFUNANSO ADZIWONEKA NGATI WOCHEZA, WATCH OUT BRIAN BANDA
    MUNTHU WOYIPATU UYU

  3. NOT YET AT CRISIS LEVEL ? HONOURABLE MINISTER BE HUMAN, KUMALIRO A MUNTHU MMODZI KUMAPITA ANTHU AMBIRI KUKALIRA NAWO
EVEN THOSE WHO ARE NOT RELATED TO THE DECEASED, NDE MUZITI IT IS NOT YET CRISIS LEVEL .

IF IT HAPPENED THAT YOU HAVE AN ALBINO CHILD AND HE/SHE HAD BEEN BARBARICALLY AND BRUTALLY MURDERED, WOULD YOU STILL SAY IT IS NOT YET A CRISIS ?
THERE IS GOD IN HEAVEN .

  4. Let us all treat this Albino killing with sober minds. Nobody of us is interested to hear that this killing continues except the perpetrators themselves. If we all want to put this to an end, what is wrong with us to give advise to our police officers clues as regards to what they can do to put this to an end? We have seen that the police officers and the government are doing their best to arrest the offenders with some sophisticated images who we did not believe they could be in the system, including the Catholic Father, Healthy Worker and a police man. Then what are we losing if we can give clue to lasting solution to the ones that we see are failing to accomplish the task of putting this to an end. Bear in mind that just speaking to show that if you are in government you will put this saga to an end is not only cheap but also stupid. Please come out and tell the nation that the police should do abcde to conclude with the work after arresting the perpetrators. To me I say BIG UP FOR THE WORK WELL DONE BY POLICE AFTER MANAGING TO TRACE THE ALBINO KILLERS IN DEDZA, KARONGA AND MACHINGA AND ARE NOW IN POLICE CUSTODY!

  5. Hon Dausi should put himself in the shoes of the albinos and then digest his careless and insensitive statement.

  6. It seems these albino killing cases are very complicated. The father of Goodson aided the kidnapping of his step son for money. APAM is led by a dumwit who is an opposition puppet. Why are they politicizing the whole issue instead of mobilizing all stakeholders to address this multi-lateral problem? Secondly, aChakwera with his phony accent says he will end albino killings within a month in office. How naive and myopic can any one be. Really? Does he know who is killing albinos and what their modus operandi is? I can tell you now that this issue is a new phenomenon in Malawi. It is linked to Tanzanians who are running away from the hammering Magufuli to do their funny things here in Malawi. Malawians are not capable of this hellish act. There are foreign agents within the country who are fueling this.

    1. This shows that you are a DPP member and you are going out of context of all this thing. 1. Your Dausi says the killing is not enough yet. We should wait for more. Is that humane from the top government official? Are you agreeing with him? 2. Magufuli has managed to handle the killers, what is our problem here? Is it Dousi or you? or who? 3. Possibly the death of this primary suspect is an endevour to continue keeping secret of where the market is.. I believe the top man in the government has powers to summon security arms to help curbing the killings. Is Magufuli an ordinary person? What has enabled him to drive the killers away from Tanzania?

  7. if apm commands that anyone found guilty be killed one day we will find that many of those to be killed are relative to the victims.

  8. Are we serious as a country kuti a Ntaba ndi a Dausi akhale mu task force imeneyi? Tikufuna kuti anzanthu achialubino tiwateteze kapena tiperekebe chiopsezo ku miyoyo yawo? No wonder Apam has pulled out after sensing danger. Ndani sakudziwa mdziko muno zintchito zaanthu amenewa nthawi ya ulamuliro wa MCP? Anationongera mbiri ya chipani amenewa and we are happy they are no longer in the party now.

  9. Former president Ngwazi Kamuzu Banda even when he was too old to be president could not tolerate useless people like Dausi in his cabinet.Professor Peter Muthalika at 80 watikwana.tikupumisani basi pa May apa

  10. Those who are shouting here, have you read that it was actually Goodson’s step-father who abducted him and he does not know whether he is alive or not. Can you comment on the issue now. There is no need to politicise this issue. We need civic education because if people who are close to albinos are the perpetrators, then it is very difficut task for the police and everyone inluding the families.

    1. there is sense in what you are saying but also consider that the said step father was in reunion for only 3 weeks which he just went there as a means of spying on how they can abduct Goodson or his sister. HE was not a husband material but someone pretending to be one when in the actual sense he went there with ill motives. As for me am not taking him as a relative, no koma wakupha and he has to be treated like that.

  11. Moti apapa nkumanena kuti Chakwera analankhula udyo? Akufuna akwane angati ndiye? ALUBINO NDIMUNTHU NGATI INU NOMWE A DAUSI, APAPA MWACHITA BWINO MWATIDZIWITSA MBALI YOMWE MUKUTENGA PANKHANIYI. WAIT FOR 21 MAY CHAKWERA WILL END ALL THESE TIDZAKUKWIDZINGANI AMBWANA

  12. What a dunderhead we have for a minister. He forgets that the very people being hunted pays taxes that he is misusing. When you lie with dogs, you get up with fleas. APM associates with Dausi, and I don’t expect the president to think differently.

    1. how can Chakwera be wrong by saying these 3 words Mr. President “Do Your Job” he was just reminding him to up his game, mayesa iwowo abwana ndi commander – in – chief

  13. This is showing the I don’t care attitude of the government. If I recall properly, the number of people with albinism reported killed or gone missing since this started in Malawi is 159. Even if only one was killed , the government should be serious about the matter and get out there to stamp out the evil practice. Whether the victims are betrayed by relatives or not, as government it is your duty to promptly investigate and bring the perpetrators to book. Not dilly darling about the emergency. We first heard about this taking place in Tanzania but the Tanzania Government has been able to stamp out the occurrence of killings of people with albinism. Ngati za kukanikani, kafunseni nzeru to TZ. .

    1. Anapitatu ku Tanzania gulu la a Ntaba koma mpaka lero they are failing to implement zomwe anakaona kumeneko.
They main issue apa is that a DPP adziwapo kanthu otherwise anakakhala serious bwezi market yamafupa atatiuza kalekale.
How can albinos be killed when there is no market for their body parts? Dausi is the worst minister since independence uyu ndi galu weniweni akangomva misonkho yathu

    2. Magufuli does not share sweets magala, but our readers are in blame game instead of addressing the problem at hand

  14. Thats how clueless this government is in solving crisis . Albinism topic can only be mishandled by incompetent minister like him. Time to go basi come election!

  15. Scintificall there are 8 levels of albinism. Some of us we may b albinos in the eyes only .if these thugs know this truth. Alot more people will be at risk even some cabinet ministers

  16. This is the problem of having half cooked clowns in cabinet, they feel they are bosses and have arrived and yet they are empty in the head as witnessed by the careless utterances of this useless Minister for Homeland Security. For them its all about Chipani this Chipani that basi. Doesn’t APM feel ashamed to be surrounded by such mediocrity??

    1. @ big

He loves it that way. I seriously have problems with mutharika’s level of academic enterprise. He is a professor so we are told but hmmmm ayi ndithu. Some of the decisions he makes surely amount to total betrayal of his own self acclaimed academic credentials. How could he for God sake leave our homeland security in the hands of Dausi and Mchacha?. Simply put no president worth his name would leave homeland security in the hands of two half schooled people. It’s silly

      1. I bleeds me that of all the ‘pple, we have Dausi, Henry Musa, Jappie, Mchacha etc for ministers. These guys are so useless that all they think is APM and their families. It is shameful. APM is a shame. She shames not only himself but he shames the title ‘Professor’ as well.

  17. govt has the duty of care and safety for its citizen, if indeed the killings is done through relatives and family members, govt will have to come in and condemn the malpractice. that is why your in govt to protect your citizen who voted you ino power. I hope mr dausi one day you will come out and retract what you have narrated. Its in human, you have familyand this could directly or indrectly happen to you. what would you do if it was yr relation? do your job properly minister

  18. Even the chairman wa task force on the killings Ntaba danzi long’anima ngati chibolo lija must be one of the albino killers.

As for Dausi it is common knowledge that he is involved with Mchacha.

  19. Stupid DPP killers mukufuna akwane angati? “Truth will out”, Dede Kamkondo once wrote.

  20. Dausi satha kuyankhula and I wonder y amamuyika mu ma udindo oti azipala poyankhula chonchi zamanyazi izi ku banja la DPP pamene zisankho zasala pang”ono

  21. That’s what tells you that DPP politicians, Dausi inclusive, are behind the albino killings. How many albinos should die before the government intervenes? DPP is full of satanists and ruthless individuals!

  22. Oh my Gosh! How many albino deaths do you want to occur, Mr Dausi, for govt to consider it a crisis?

Even if it had been one death, it’d would have been one death too much!

APAM has done well to pull out of the task force.

Even if it is only three months to go before APM is booted out and a new caring govt is elected, three months is a long time to wait for another govt to come and deal with these atrocities.

The killing of albinos has gone beyond crisis level, Mr Dausi. We want govt to act yesterday!

  23. Mr. Dausi be man enough . Withdraw your statement and apologise to the nation. What you said is simply stupid. That’s what you get when you give ministerial positions to people with low IQ. Mutharika should address on this issue. It’s simply stupid to have a government that is so careless and I insensitive like what we have now. Ndiye paja Olo nduna zionese maliseche dziko lonse lapansi kwa mutharika it’s normal. Mutharika is simply something else . Za utchisilu zeni zeni.

  24. Dausi if you’re involved in the attacks just come in the open. God is laughing at you and your family as well as your friends. Mind you were also created in the image of the Living God. You have a lot of questions to answer from the time of one part system until now.

  25. Very careless and poor choice of words by Dausi. Just this year 5 people with albinism are dead or missing and Dausi thinks this is not enough to worry about. Other Nations spend huge sums of money just to save 1 person when he/she is in trouble. Dausi can’t you feel sorry for the albinos who’re living in perpetual fear?

  26. Seriously guys amene mukuganizila zokavotela DPP think twice.Just because of these remarks this man must resign. How can you be insensitive? This is beyond crisis level. To hell with DPP and it’s cabinet.

  27. How many more must be killed before its a crisis. How many more must die before they lose their patience. How can they be called impatient when they are being killed.

  28. Ngati Mkuluyu wayankhuladi chonchi nde walakwisa kwambiri! Sitiyankhula chonchi pa nkhani yomwe anthu akuluza moyo wawo! and speaking like that while holding that position is dangerous! akufuna atiuze chani anthu ifeyo pa nkhani imeneyi, should we come to conclusion that he or them are involved that is why they are not doing anything tangible in provision of securityto these people! A Dausi ngati mumawelenga these comment come out muzapepese and ndi udindo womwe mulinawowo pangani zoti ma alubino asamakhale olo kuyenda ndi mantha!

  29. IF THIS IS THE CALIBER OF OUR LEADERS, THEN NO WONDER WE ARE IN THE SITUATIIN WE ARE IN.

KINDLY PROVIDE A COMPETENT, MATURE PERSON TO HANDLE THIS VERY SENSATIVE AND URGENT ISSUE.

THE NEEDLESS LOSS OF EVEN A SINGLE LIFE IS TOO MUCH.

  30. Kodi Dausi akanapha ana ako ndiye ikanakhala crisis? OMG!!! What’s this from DPP? Really. That’s y people are assumin DPP government knows something because u can’t make such stupid, immature, irresponsible statements. Mukufuna afe a ngati for it to abe crisis?May God twist your neck. One by one may all DPP leadership perish and suffer in eternal hell. May your cars be involved in accidents and all of u die. Dausi say amen to this prayer.

  31. DPP ikufuna akwane kaye mmene awauzira zizimba Kwa nsing’anga ndiye aziti it’s a crisis let’s do something

    1. KKKKK you have just shared my thoughts. The question is what are acceptable levels. Is a loss of one life not enough to be a cause of concern.

    2. Anthu akosawa mosaziwika bwino ena akupedwa basi munthu wankulu kamanena motumbwa chonchi kuti si “Crisis” ndiye atiwuze kuti Crisis imakhala bwanji, chifukwa abale athu akuphedwa basi wina akuwona ndithu ndizamasanji zimezi. Mulungi akhululukireni bambo Dausi, ufiti wupose apa?

      1. Dausi you’re very very silly person how can you speak like that? Are you a normal person or minister or are you crazy man don’t waist yr time to apologize time up any time from now you’re leaving no stress baba chidazi
