The second-year Tourism student came top after outclassing four other contestants. Eliza Gondwe came second, while Maness Salima finished third.

Gondwe, 19, is a third year Nursing student and Salima, 18, is in her first year pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Education.

Initially, there were six contestants, but the number was reduced after one contender pulled out of the competition.

During the contest, the girls paraded in office, traditional, dinner and casual wear, apart from showcasing their dancing talent.

Judges were looking at how the participants paraded in terms of body movement and gestures as well as presentation. There was also question time as part of the criteria used to determine the winner.

The Mzuni Airtel Miss Matofotofo was part of the college’s social weekend which started on Friday to Sunday.

The mobile phone service provider Airtel Malawi sponsored the event to the tune of K0.5 million.

The three finalists received cash prizes and Airtel hampers. Lwara got K50,000, while Gondwe received K30,000 and Salima pocketed K20,000.

According to Airtel Malawi, they sponsored the event as one way of giving back to their student customers at Mzuni, where they also had the chance to do activations and awareness on their mobile data services.

Apart from the Miss Matofotofo, the students also took part in several activities including gaming and dancing competitions. On Sunday the learners had time off campus and went on a trip to the lake, Chikale Beach, where they had swimming and drinking competitions.
