Mkaka denies chartering presidential jet on Somaliland mission: ‘No iota of truth’

Foreign Affairs minister Eisenhower Mkaka has brushed aside social media reports that the government chartered a presidential jet for him to go to Somaliland on government business.

Mkaka is in Hargeisa in Somaliland on an official mission.
Mkaka shared his travel air ticket

Mkaka is in Hargeisa in Somaliland on an official mission.

But speaking to an influential social media activist  Onjezani Kenani,  Minister Mkaka said he has travelled commercial airline and has shared his air ticket.

He went on to explain that Somaliland approached Malawi to support its cause as it fights for recognition as a separate independent country.

“Hon. Mkaka is in Somaliland on a factfinding mission. According to history, said the minister, Somaliland was always a separate nation. Got independence on 26 June 1960.

“The following day, on 27 June, its own Parliament voted to join the part of Somalia that was governed during colonial times by Italy, which it did on 1 July 1960.

“But when Somalia became ungovernable, especially with the fall of General Siad Barre, Somaliland declared the end of its union with Somalia on 15 May 1991,” says Kenani on his Facebook wall.

Kenani says however, no country on earth has formally recognized it since then, although in the chaos that Somalia has been since, this is the only corner of the country that has continued to function as a normal nation and has remained an oasis of stability.

“This week, representatives of the South African ruling party are also there to find out whether there is a way to support the call for Somaliland’s recognition, since 30 years have now passed, and it remains the only stable part of Somalia.

“The Kenyan government was there last month. The United Arab Emirates was there to help them construct their port. Many governments are doing their own factfinding there,” says Kenani.

Kenani says the minister told him that the Malawi government has not taken an official position, as it wants to find out facts a bit more, hence his visit.

  1. Mistake ya Mkaka is one. He is behind the scenes fighting with SKC. Chilima has a very powerful media team which will be on his tail through and through to his ruin. They will relentlessly follow and pounce on him at any slightest mistake or even with exaggerations. It’s about to get ugly in Tonse. Bola musasokoneze development agenda ndiye sizigwira anta!!!

  2. Mkaka uyuyu nayeso ndi munthu osokoneza. Wadyera. Though mcp die-hard but he is ruining the party. He needs to be tamed. MCP siyambwiyake. Everything from bushiri to any scandal helen buluma the list goes on he is in it. He is giving mcp a bad name

  6. Well, those of you who don’t know about Somaliland, let me explain it in few sentences. Somaliland and Malawi were both ex- colonies of Britain. They got get their independence in the same year, but Somalilanders preferred to unite with somalia which was Italian colony. They marriage was ordeal and Somaliland withdrawn that unity in 1991 just as somalia collapsed. It has its defined territorial sovereignty which abides by the article of the AU charter that defines the nature of African states. Somaliland shares democratic values with Malawi and in fact it’s the only democratic country in the horn of Africa. There are 6 elected presidents that had handed over peacefully the power one after another in the last 30 years.
It’s like Switzerland that’s no member of UN or any other institutions because of it’s own good.
Those of you who are scared of the name . Somaliland isn’t somalia.

    1. Somalia = Land of the Somalis. Somaliland = Land of the Somalis. Don’t be fooled people this is one Somali tribe that was to run part of the country so their tribe can grab more power. In 30 years no one in the world has recognized them because they see them for what they are.

  7. Mkakayu akukhudzidwa ndi zambiritu, kuthawa kwa bushiri kunamukhudza, amati atumiza asirikali ankhondo Ku cabo Delgado akathane ndi zifwamba, embassy Ku Jerusalem, lero nduyo Ku somaliland, konseko alive zochita. 8. Solve your own problems like fuel prices, joblessness and pure lack of economic growth and leadership vision before even thinking of helping others!!
Abale! What can you possibly help Somalian materially and then you also send troops to Mozambique? Fix your house first before looking at others!!

  9. Did he really had to go physically za video conference zi ayi? Aah koma!!! I voted for Tonse koma so far ayi ndithu I am yet to be convinced I made the right decision…starting from Mia and his wife being in the cabinet… Rubbish

  10. As you are doing your so called fact finding, who has made you the UN kuti muzikaononga ma allowance athu kumapita kumeneku. Mmalo mopanga migwirizano ya phindu mukuononga ndalama zopanda pakezi. The fact is kumaonanso kuti anthuwa tipanga nawo benefit chani? Zimenezi siyirani a UN muzilimbikira kupanga address umphawi wathuwu.

    1. Am beginning to dislike this gaffumenti. Did they conduct a cost benefit analysis before going to Somaliland. What is there for Malawi. Because Kenya it doesn’t Malawi should be involved. I think there is more to this story than going to Somaliland.

    2. cadet vomereza kuti nthawi yako inatha ndipo sudzabwereraso m’boma.Diplomacy is expensive every where .We do farming here they do not ,(Somalilanders) in near future Malalwi will be selling agricultural produce there once all diplomatic activities are established.Iwe cadetv sukuona kuti many countries are flocking there for future business adventures? God removed you from govt because of your hate and nepotism and you must swallow your behaviour and accept your current status.Malawians are not ready to listen to you AGAIN.

  11. What a waste of resources and time. How does that concern us as Malawians? Leave that to the UN and AU, simple.

      1. Akamude kuti watani. Is he the first foreign affairs minister in Malawi? Khalidwe lake ndiye loipa. The nest reshuffle should show his the exit. That ministry should go to sober and intelligent people like Sam Kawale. I dont know why Chakwera hates this intelligent guy kumayanjana ndi mbola ngati Mkaka

  12. In MCP there is bunch of people who cannot hold their patience because they want to make a name so quickly. This is a dangerous direction the Tonse Government is taking. We shal wake up to a big surprise not too long from now.It is only at that time we shall know who are friends are as we are on the road to deliberately make enemies with the world. We heard about Jerusalem, now it’s Somaliland and tomorrow it will be Iraq or Yemen. Please, don’t try to build Rome in just one day. A Ngwazi Banda dzukani muone nyansi ziri kuno.

  13. A Malawi kuyendayenda. Kulitu COVID kunja kuno why not use video conferencing for these meetings. Kufuna ma allowance basi

      1. Lets accept that tikuononga. DPP inatha. You cant be talking about it now. Chili chonse mademo is DPP. Sober up

  14. There is too much hatred and jealousy from DPP Cadets against Tonse leaders. They are busy spreading lies on social media to try to sway people’s support to DPP leadership, but they will not succeed. DPP will not be allowed to rule Malawi again- they will remain somehow popular in the southern region but not enough to put them back in power. The north and centre will never vote for them until Jesus comes.

    1. It’s not about North. South or Central Region. It is about Malawi. That spirit is the one that gas destroyed Malawi. We need one united Malawi

    2. Awuzengodzi, DPP and it’s Cadets will cry to core but no one centre or North will support them.

They have abused malawians more than enough and now it’s time for them to feel the pitch . No mercy for these Cadets , let them cry till 2084 wooooo.
