Mo Mia pledges Muslim hospital and Islamic University: Upbeat of MCP victory

It appears that Alhaj Mohammed Sidik Mia targets the month of Ramadan and preferably a religious gathering function to pronounce his major political wishes and so far, it is working for him.

Mia announces plans to build Muslim funded state of the art hospital and university

In 2017 when he announced his comeback in front line politics, he told a religious gathering in no uncertain terms that he would be vying for a senior position in his second appearance on the political scene. He appealed to them to support him as they always do in his political journey. This was during the month Ramadan.

Now two years down the line, he was elected deputy vice president of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). Later, party  leader Lazarus Chakwera went ahead to make him his running mate in the looming watershed elections on 21st May 2019, elections of which MCP has the best chances ever of breaking its decades old jinx, in that event Mia will have fulfilled his ambition of becoming vice president of the republic of Malawi.

Speaking to thousands of Muslim women at Limbe country club onFriday , again during the month of Ramadan, Mia, who is upbeat of MCP victory in this election, made two bold promises to the Muslim community as well as to Malawians in general.

“When we take over government in few days’ time, I want to assure you that we will build a state of the art hospital, bigger than Queens’ hospital and it will be here in Blantyre. This hospital, which will be for all Malawians, will uphold Islam tenets that women should be treated by women medical personnel not like we see today in our hospitals where you are sometimes treated by men personnel’s.

“I have already identified a donor for this mega project and once you usher MCP into power, I promise you that this will come to pass,” he said.

Mia also promised the Muslim community that he will construct a state of the art Islam run University in the country.

“We will also construct a state of the art University so we can significantly contribute to the development of our country by helping in producing highly skilled and industry ready human resource,” he said.

Mo Mia then wowed the women when he told them that he will see to it that they are helped with sound capital for them to start meaningful businesses.

He then appealed to them to support his vice presidential bid by voting for the pair for Dr Lazarus Chakwera in Malawi’s 21st May 2019 watershed election, few days from now.

Mo Mia is an experienced politician and a wealthy businessman whose presence and contribution to the party has made the party to be visible and competitive across the country, in southern region to be more specific, where the party had been struggling to make serious inroads since it lost grip of power in 1994.

  1. without taking sides i would like to appreciate all of you fro saying your views as pertaining the issue of islamic hospitals and universities. know that i have taken time to read all of these comments and replies, and at this point i have come to a conclusion that all that is said makes valid and relevant sense in as far as the development of this country is concerned. but i have my personal opinions too of which i would like to relay.
firstly, Mr Mia idea is and must remain welcomed as a part and parcel development agendas that need to be pushed for. it is the wish of the united nations to end problems affecting health, and edutation as perceived in the MDGs which today have traslated to SDGs which is beautiful. But it is not write to judge the standards of the current existing resources and services that are provided based on religious perceptions. globally professions do take a step further towards assisting the marginalised and poor citizens that we take for granted. i therefore would want to differ with Mr Mia’s perspective that he is to bring dev projects in the country if voted into power. without interferring with the affairs of health lets not use islamic teachings as a tool of scooping votes because that put other faiths at a disadvantage, creating tension as you already know what religion is capable of. secondly if you want to bring dev projects into the country dont bring in attachments like the conditions for us to vote for, because it seems like if we dont vote for sir, yuo will not proceed with the good idea, thus a character of a bitter man sorry to say so.

  2. Some of the statements like these by Mia r dangerous at this last hour of campaigning… people listening to Mia might interpret him wrongly and choose not to vote for MCP for the fear of what might come from Mia’s plans…..be careful malawi

  3. What the hell is this MIA (Missing In Action) guy talking about. This guy is trying to build a boko haram university and hospital. Mia is a known sponsor of terrorism in Africa and other parts of the world, that is why the FBI are looking for this idiot. He is in the wanted list of sponsors of terrorism. This guy is very dangerous, more dangerous that Osama Bin Laden, his brother. MCP must remain in the dustbin of the opposition benches by hook or crook. Muwabele mavoti anthu awa. Chakwera has been captured by Muslims, the real defacto president of MCP is Mia. Abeledwe awa basi, the rigging machine igwile nchito basi. We can’t go back and be ruled by MCP. Never.

  4. When Mia’s wife falls sick and go to South Africa for medical attention, does he demand which doctor should treat his wife or anyone who is specialized in his wife’s problem and is on duty. Why fool people like this? The problem with our uneducated politicians is that they consider every Malawian to be at the same level with them. Foolish Junior Certificate holder. MSCE inakugwetsa pa Chikwawa Secondary School.

  5. Industrialization first then everything later. Where are our fellow graduates now? They are stranded in our homes just because the nation cannot offer them an opportunity to work.

  6. Lelebzya, Tulonkhondo,Bumphula and Jenala has your smile vote on 21st May 2019.

    1. Not that those other religious universities were not built by politicians. Please watchout of political promises. They are there for your votes only

  7. Let’s face the fact. There is no way anyone can islamaise the whole nation. Muslims have all the rights to develop this country as our dear Christians do by building ter own schools n hospitals. Let’s understand one another n leave together in harmony

    1. I agree. There are many moslems in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and they live side by side. Moslems in Malawi have the right to d what other religious groupings do.

  8. What’s wrong with universities when Livingstonia sybod has a University,. We have Catholic University, BT Synod University. We have a whole organization called Christian Health Association of Malawi. Think about that. We have Malawi Adventist University too. And you want to hate another religion for wanting to have a University. Adventists have their own hospitals which treat and work according to their religion. It’s a democracy and that’s how things work. This will just balance out things. In fact we need even Islamic Banking to compete with these predatory banks we have. Am a Christian by the way and coz of my beliefs am not afraid of another religion.

    1. Shaa kubwereka ndalama opanda interest. Tonse tikatenga ndalama ku Islamic Bank komweko ndipo ma bank enawa afa natural death yeeeee.

    2. That is not true. You are a non Christian.

The fear is that Muslims use their religious institutions as tools to force non Christians to embrace their religion. An example, Muslims do not allow non Muslims in their education institutions. Go to Dedza Islamic Girls School and point out which non Muslims are pursuing their education there without being called to their offices to convert after being told that they are “dirty”as per their religion. You should not pretend that all is well. The Quran has over 22 passages that encourages Muslims to “sort out” non Muslims. I shall post a few later in event someone uses bad language on this forum. Another example in the recent upheavals in the Middle East, non Muslims in Syrian were targeted and were made to face the music. However, islamisation is slow process which takes place at a rate which non Muslims might find it difficult to decipher.

If the Islamic University is intended for everyone without necessarily being used as a tool of conversion, then, there is no problem. But let the Muslim Association of Malawi establish it now. It should not be used a political campaign material by MIA. Non Muslims will be scared.

    3. You got this one completely wrong. The religious universities you are mentioning came through the religious institions themselves. They did not use government ladders to establish them. What Mia is saying is that once voted into power he will make sure an Islamic Institution will be established. Why can’t it be established even if he is not in government? Why wait until he is in government to do that? Something is not adding up! Of course I agree with those who say there is no problem with having an Islamic University. They have all the right and freedom to do that. But the method and motive is the one that raises suspicions.

      1. yes i totally agree with you chonyaditsa. if mia want to build universirty through Islam he should just do it minus politics. bcoz we want united Malawi not a didided one due to religion. pora mbuya.

      2. Can we hear what the fake accent ex-reverend reverend thinks o these terroristic plans? If he keeps quite it means he has no backbone. Wada ma banzi a Boko Haram ndi a Kazhigheti.

    4. Which foolish and zealotic politician promised these Christian universities you list? Nada. This terrorist should not deceive people.

      1. MIA WA BODZA, NDI MILLIONARE INDE, KOMA BWANJI SAMAMANGA CHIPATALA KWAO KU NSANJE/CHIKWAWA ZAKA ZONSEZI, NONSENSE, YOU JUST CHEATING MALAWINANS TO VOTE MCP. MCP CHIPANI CHA MAGAZI, MALAWIAN WILL NEVER FORGET.

  9. Did Bakili Islamize Malawi during his 10 year tenure? Cheap propaganda that will not work

    1. He did not but during his reign more mosques were built. Muslims without proper qualification were pushed into high positions. For example, at ESCOM. To crown it all, Bible Knowledge was taken off from secondary school curricula. Those who criticized him were “sorted out” as per Quran.

    2. During Muluzi’s tenure, many mosques were built along the roads and villages. so Leadership has influence on religion

  10. Mia has never been to any University. Now promises a Boko Haram principles hospital. Shooting EMUSIPI in the foot one week to elections. This combined with kukwela we cashgate Abhiti Kazhigheti will consign EMUSIPI to the opposition.

    1. People of Bumphula,Tulonkhondo,Kasonjola,Lelebzya and Cheyadi will never waste their votes to your putrid sister parties of DPP,UDF and trading center, city and town newly formed club{UTM}.

      1. The votes from the people of Bumphula, Tulonkhondo, Kasonjola, Lelebzya and Cheyadi are the ones that will ensure that the Boko Haram man with his Islamic medical personnel segregation, Islamic university and fake accent remain in opposition. Otherwise it will be a waterloo for EMUSIPI. They will languish there while chopping Islamic donor money which they have found but with no project to finance.

  11. Which Muslim donors who are only waiting for MCP to come into power to assist their brothers in Malawi? Fotsek!

  12. Mr Mia tell people the truth female doctors ? are u aware that in medicine we have specialists and specialisation has no gender

  13. ISLAMISATION OF MALAWI. TIKHALE TCHERU. THATS THE TERRIBLE MISTAKE CHAKWERA MADE IN CHOOSING SIDIK MIA.

      1. It is because you maim Christians if they do not convert. Read the Quran 8:9 or 5:33.

  14. Dr Chakwera 2014 GE deficit of 400,000 over President Muthalika has been well covered by the overwhelming support from Southern Region. What about the DPP stolen votes which will no longer be there? What about the Northern Region votes which belonged to JB?

  15. Thats good we need such type of developments in malawi not foundation stone every where which are not contributing anything to our country

  16. Is this a way of islamimg Malawi. Memories are still fresh from what Bakili and cohorts did and wanted to do

    1. You, kids of Malawi’s Julius Malema, your vote is just too weak to stop this pair from victory.DPP,sister parties UTM and UDF GO TO HELL.

  17. Kuwapezerera Amalawi kumeneko. Kuti kukufunika chipatala chimenechi wadziwa liti? Wadziwa nthawi ya campaign? Kulepheratu uku ndimpando womwewo asanaupeze.
