MP Harry Mkandawire boosts MCP by-election campaign
Veteran politician and business magnet Harry Mlekanjala Mkandawire joined Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera on Friday to drum up support for Lilongwe Msozi MCP candidate, Sosten Gwengwe for the Tuesday by-elections.
Mkandawire openly called upon opposition members to vote for MCP hopeful Gwengwe in their large numbers.
“Malawi is waiting to vote for Dr Chakwera in 2019 but for this to happen, let’s demonstrate our powers by voting Gwengwe as MP this week,” said Mkandawire,
“North ,Malawi is behind Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Malawi is tired of being ruled by dishonest leaders,” said Mkandawire attacking Democratic Progressvie Party (DPP) administration.
Mkandawire, who also spoke at Mtsiliza on the same tour, said people from the north are tired with the current Government.
In his speech at Nayere, Sanjiko, Kacheta and Nathenje, Chakwera who was accompanied by Members of Parliament and other senior party members , Chakwera started by accusing Mutharika, for politicizing developments projects.
“It is unfortunate that am hearing words like support Government to have development, this is not true , development is for every citizen regardless of political colour,” said Chakwera.
Other by-elections will take place in Nsanje Lalanje for an MP and a ward in Blantyre and Dedza.

People in the North don’t vote like the unwise people in the South and Eastern regions do, who are bringing the country down by a regionalistic choice that does not benefit the country but bring about thieves in power. When the North sees that her own child is misbehaving and acting useless as Chakufwa Chihana did by joining the unwanted alliance with UDF, she punishes her by the way of a rejection on the ballot day. The same applies to some useless MP’s who are money hungry and go for their own desires than the wishes of people; the likes of Matembo Mzunda, Simon Vuwa Kaunda, George Nga Mtafu and many more. These will be followed by Mzomera Ngwira and his group.
Malawi is bottom on the development ladder because of the same poor choices. The game changer in the Eastern Region and the Muslim vote is the Mia factor. UDF is not united as before and Yaos are tired of being misled by Atupele, come 2019 you are going to see the reason why DPP is restless.
Mr Kunena mosapsatira, Bye-election cannot be a litmus test for a presidential seat. In a General election like that in 2019 people will look for the big post. When you hear them celebrating it is the presidential seat which moves them to ecstasy. MCP has been winning more parliamentary seats but failing the presidency. MCP can win the seat in Nsanje-Lalanje with a narrow difference but these votes of a losing candidate when they are used in a presidential race they can have a weight. Votes of a losing DPP candidate in Kasungu will be more than those of a losing MCP candidate in Mulanje. This affects the presidential race. That is why we say Chakwera cannot amass numbers countrywide to make him win the presidency. The numbers which APM will get from the Eastern region will be enough to bruise Chakwera. What if he adds Mwanza, Ntcheu, and Blantyre? He has votes in Nkhotakota which none can imagine yet the district is in central region. If people of the north respect Chihana why are they dumping his party, Aford? The party is led by his own son but all Tumbukas are running away from this son. They are supporting a party which has just dumped another son from the north in the name of Msowoya. If you are wise enough why didn’t you rise against the MCP leadership for replacing Msowoya with NANA, instead you are very vocal on Chilima’s issues. Ndinu wopepera kwambiri anthu inu.
Blessed Banda, if DPP won because of what Bingu did, why did the north gang up against Bingu on the famous thieves who were killed in July that year? Was the north not celebrating the death of Bingu and supported Joyce because her husband is from the north? Is not the majority of PP from the north? It is becoz of the runaway of Joyce that the north is now looking for another party to support. But even if you support MCP, your numbers this time will not be more than that which Chihana gave to Gwanda when he headed the party and failed. The badness of DPP was being talked by Joyce and the northerners in 2014. Why then did the party manage to get some seats from the north? You cannot fool all the people in the north. What proof is there that Chakwera can do better than the others? Is it not Chakwera who is failing to organize the party? Is it not during the time of Chakwera that we can now hear about rebels within the party? Even if the whole north votes for him the cursed man of God will never ascend to the state presidency. You banked your hope of winning on 50+1 as if all opposition parties promised to vote for Chakwera in the re-run. Do you see UDF voting for Chakwera in the re-run? Tell me which areas of DPP strongholds has now withdrawn their support from the party? Is this stronghold saying they will vote for Chakwera? For what reason? DPP is a party which has support everywhere in this country. DPP has support even in the district of the MCP president. At least APM has numbers which he will add on presidential level. But talk about Chakwera in the south, where will he get the numbers. Tamaperekani fundo wosati kumangolalata apa ayi. Sikuti Chakwera adzapambana chifukwa choti APM walephera ntchito ayi. Chifukwa pali masapota ake ambiri amene akuwona ubwino wa APM and they are ready to vote for him 2019. To win them to MCP you should first tell them WHY they should vote for Chakwera. There was a time when the north was a political pendulum. But this time everyone knows that the north is not one entity. This is why you hate people like Chiumia and Mhango.
The fact that Harry has said people from the north…means he is also tribalistic…It is like north and centre gang up against south….Two wrongs don’t make a right! Is Harry not corrupt are south or centre or north people in govt or CSOs or Pvt sector not corrupt?

In 2014 anthu akuChitipa mwa phuma pokondwera nsewu wawo wosalimba anavotera DPP, koma lero they are regretting. The coming by- elections are a litimus taste/test of how unpopular the current govt is. They are going to lose miserably.

Shall the win of Gwengwe show that Chakwera will win in 2019? The seat was under MCP in 2014, why didn’t Chakwera win the presidency in that year if the win this time means a win of Chakwera in 2019? Bye-elections usually do not indicate a presidential win, Mr Mkandawire. MPs have a very small area that you cant compare it to the whole country.

Joyce Banda had the same message that the north is tired by the DPP. That was in 2014. But ask Mkandawire who by then was in PP campaigning for Amayi to tell us who won the elections. Didn’t DPP won seats in the north? Why did DPP have votes in the north if people were tired with it? The north and Malawians were tired with Amayi not APM. By the way, why is PP not fielding a candidate? So the party is gone?
DPP was not as stupid as it is now. It won on the reputaion of Bingu, a performer leader not what we have now.
Santana, don’t talk about history. If you think the north is stupid enough like the Lomwe belt to just vote blindly, then you are in for a heart attack. 2014 is not 2019 and your overconfidence is giving you obstructive tinted glasses to see even near you. You think we can keep on being led by a clueless and visionless president who can’t be in the thick of things? You think you can use Joyce Banda’s message as a yardstick to measure Mutharika’s chances in 2019? Show me a tribe which is not tribalistic in Malawi among the lhomwe, chewa or tumbuka better still any tribe in MW
