Mponela salvage draw against Blantyre United: Malawi TNM Super League

Anord Mpina brought smiles to the Mponela United  sponsor Jean Kalirani who sat on the VIP stands  when he scored an equalizer for   his side to force Blantyre United to a 1-1 draw  in the TNM Super League match played on Sunday infront of an average crowd at Kamuzu Stadium.

Blantyre United were first to score through Osward Mawonga’s thunderous shot in the first half.

The home team, with the vocal support of ganyu supporters created many scoring opportunities but Muhamad Sulumba and Tizowere Kumwenda lacked composure in the dangerzone as they mis-fired too many chances.

Mphembedzu as popularly known failed to ultilise their left wing where they rely on Abraham Kamwendo, who struggled to break the defence of Mponela.

In the second half, Mponela United tuned their game to the top level as they piled up more  pressure until they equalized through Anord Mpina to the delight of their sponsor lawmaker  Kalirani, who sat on the VIP together with her son Limbani.

In post-match interviews, Mponela United coach Benjamin Kaunda saluted his boys for the equalizer and warned the rest of the teams to expect more fire from the tobacco growing district out-fit in the second round.

Blantyre United coach Elijah Kananji described the outcome of the game as frustrating.

“It is always frustrating to give away a lead but all in all we will rectify our problems in the next fixture,” said Kananji.
