MP’s fury at Lilongwe City Council officials over CDF projects
Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City South West Rhino Chiphiko has expressed disappointment over poor implementation of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects in his constituency.
Speaking after assessing some projects at Nanjati, Kawale, Ngwenya, Sesa and Area 2, he said, he is not satisfied on the way the projects are being implemented by the City Council and the contractors who have been awarded the contracts.
“I feel cheated because the way I have seen the projects and the amount of money mentioned does not match. Communities who are the owners of these development projects are being duped,” he said.
He threatened to report to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on the way the CDF is being handled by other authorities in his area.
“There is corruption taking place at the council starting from the identification of the contractors and the bill of quantities for the projects,” he said/
Chiphiko cited an example of Kafita-Kawale 1 foot bridge which was valued at K3million but the job done at the site was poor and substandard.
He said what was written on the papers from the City Council was totally different from the actualities at the site.
Ward Councillor for Kawale 1 also Mayor for the City of Lilongwe, Willy Chapondera agreed with the legislature that the projects are not worthwhile.
“Some of these projects need to be demolished and start all over again to satisfy the owners of the projects-communities,” he said.
However, Chiphiko secured K12million from CDF for the development projects in his constituency.

This is a reactive complaint. Money has already been wasted whilst fools asleep only to wake up late and start complaining there after.
You should have been involved as a Custodian of this money, watching step by step from the conceptual drawings to BOMs and prices until completion. Now it’s too late; you are rushing to the press to shift the blame after people started raising concerns? Who can take you serious?

Shoddy work coupled with corruption. How on earth does one call that thing shown in the picture as a bridge? Pay back the money for goodness sake and get a reputable contractor and do the job. The last time I checked kawale was in Lilongwe the capital city (in the middle of the city) and this to me looks like a tortoise and not a bridge certainly. Kambuchinderi uwu!
