Msonda now PP’s deputy spokesperson: Recycling

The more things change in life, the more they remain the same that’s how best one can describe the Peoples Party (PP) of Vice President Joyce Banda.

The PP has just announced that former United Democratic Front (UDF) executive member Ken Msonda is now its deputy publicity secretary.

The party’s spokesperson is Stephen Mwenye and Msonda comes second to him. The appointment of Msonda comes barely two weeks after he dumped the UDF lying he was retiring from politics to concentrate on personal affairs.

However, two days later, he announced that he had joined the Peoples Party. There was pomp and colour at PP headquarters in the commercial capital, Blantyre when the partys founder and leader welcomed Msonda.

Then, Joyce Banda described Msonda as a big catch for PP and that he was a mature and experienced politician.

The latest development in which Msonda has been made deputy spokesperson for the party has left many Malawians disappointed that now fears they had that PP was just another group of recycled politicians have been confirmed.

People’s views

Mary Mandala of Area 47 in Lilongwe described the PP as just a grouping formed out of frustration without a proper vision for the people of Malawi.

“If you look at the composition of the party hierachy, you can see that its a group of recycled politicians starting with Joyce Banda herself,” she said.

A political commentator agreed with the observation of Mandala.

“People had a lot of expectations in PP but now the composition of its executive has made people lose interest in the organisation,” said Dan Mbewe.

Recycled

Nyasa Times look at a glance confirms the peoples fears that PP has just turned into like many other Malawi political parties full of recycled politicians.

Treasurer Brown Mpinganjira has been in UDF, NDA and MCP, executive member Peter Kaleso has been in Aford, UDF and NDA, Director of Economic Affairs Dr Jerry Jana has been in the MCP, UDF and Republican Party.

Clement Stambuli has been in UDF and now PP. Director of Women Affairs Mary Clara Makungwa has been in NDA, UDF and DPP, the new catch Harry Mkandawire has been UDF, DPP and PDM, executive member Kizito Ngwembe has been MCP, then MCP pressure group for change, MP Anita Kalinde has been in DPP and so is another MP Janipher Chilunga, going to Msonda himself, he has been in UDF and NDA among many other parties.
