Mutharika credits MCP for ending colonial rule, UDF championed democracy: ‘DPP to continue transforming Malawi’

President Peter Mutharika has reiterated the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vision to develop the country,  highlighting  the mission of political parties that ruled the country starting from 1964 up to date and appreciating the role each party did to Malawians.

President Peter Mutharika : DPP had brought a number of development projects in the country and it will continue doing that

Mutharika  in his New Year’s address to the nation titled ‘Let us agree to move forward in peace, love and unity’, also commended oppositions Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for fighting colonialism to bring independence and United Democratic Front (UDF) party for bringing democracy in the country.

“Since the DPP came to govern this country, we have always maintained our mandate to the people of Malawi. Malawi Congress Party came to end colonialism. They finished their job.

The United Democratic Front came to bring democracy. We honour them for that. The DPP came to develop this country. And we have work to do!,” said President Mutharika.

However, the Malawi leader failed to highlight the mission of the former ruling Peoples Party (PP)  which governed the country between 2012 and 2014 when Joyce Banda became president after the death of Bingu wa Mutharika.

Mutharika said DPP had brought a number of development projects in the country and it will continue doing that.

Among others, Mutharika said DPP administration has managed to construct good tarmac roads across the country, empowered the youths through the introduction of community Technical Colleges just to mention a few.

“With new tarmac roads, we have connected more people and more villages to their hospitals,
markets and schools. We have empowered the Youth with skills to create their own jobs and employ others through community technical colleges,” said Mutharika

Commenting on the last year’s presidential elections, President Mutharika whose victory is being challenged in the constitution court by the opposition UTM party and MCP insisted the elections were free, fair and credible.

“All international observers and foreign governments praised us for conducting what they described as ‘peaceful, free, fair, credible and professionally managed’ elections. These are not my words. This is history written on record,” said Mutharika

He added: “Unfortunately, very unfortunately, some people decided to respond to their election defeat by inciting violence, spreading intimidation and victimizing innocent people. In the name of expressing their rights, they have inflicted painful suffering in Malawians. In the name of democratic rights

“All this was done simply to create anarchy, frustrate the economy and create suffering in you Malawians. The whole political logic was to create misery and suffering in order to create anger and incite the people against Government. This is being done in the name of democracy,”

The Malawian leader then called upon political party leaders and Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) leadership to be agents of peace not violence.

  1. Atukwene, DPP is the party of death, petrol bombers, zikwanje boys and Albino killers. They are doing it right now during the night because you and DPP love darkness. Don’t forget Dausi was the master mind of all the killings in MCP. Where is Dausi now? Doy think he can stop doing what he knows best? I am so sure you are one of the devilish DPP erand boys and a cadet, blinded by greed and selfishness. You are a blind follower, supporting the very same people who are responsible for your poverty, miseries and agonies. You have blind loyalty!

  2. Rory Stewart candidly admitted that not a great deal has been achieved with foreign aid, during a speech at Yale University. He cited dirt-poor Malawi, which has gobbled up GBP4.5 billion of aid over the past half century with little, if anything to show for it. What transformation will you bring for Malawi when you have miserably and literary failed in your first 5- year term? The only transformation you have made is in your bank account and your lifestyle, you stupid, killer, thieving and tippex president! You should be ashamed of yourself when you speak such nonsense to Malawians! Get thee hence, Satan!

  3. This man is an old fool, maybe his kids are stupid enough that they can’t give him any sense. Mcp did its best so does bingu. Peter all you do is lying, day dreaming, empty promises, milking tax payers and developing hate as well as tribalism. Why is god punishing us?

  4. ‘DPP to continue to transform Malawi’ ….into what? We know what we see around us and what we experience day in and day out – poverty and desperation. which becomes worse not better. The only things APM and the DPP are transforming are their own wealth and prosperity at the expense of the masses.

  5. Tippex is bad ink, do not wear it because people see you like nyani opakidwa paint chifukwa choba chimanga. DPP imeneyi tippex wakuphani

  6. Yes Mr APM, MCP kicked colonial masters, & UDF messed up our political climate which you’re now plundering with tippex presidency. International observers are only tourist who don’t care about our electoral processes, but spectating. Malawians are now awake to be cheated by bogus politicians who cares about tribal politics and impunity.

  7. MCP did not only end colonial rule, it transformed the country by laying the foundation on which most of the presidents that have come after HKB have failed to successfully build on accept Bingu who has a vision to transform the country. MCP in its rule achieved the following:
1, New capital city in Lilongwe
    2. Government/ MHC houses in Areas 10, 11, 12, 15, 18 (Most of these were sold under Bakili rule)
    3. Kamuzu central Hospital
    4. Kamuzu International Airport
    5. University of Malawi with its five constituent colleges (Bunda,Chanco, Poly, KCM and COM) which have now been unbundled under DPP regime
    6. Lake shore road, Mzuzu Chikangawa and many other road networks
    7. Hydro power stations
    8. Railway from Mchinji to Salima
There were so many good things MCP initiated despite its short fall on human rights record which I believe was due to the time and era in which MCP ruled.

    1. As much you guyz credit MCP for these development works and the list is endless, However, MCP could have done better than these so called foundations. If at all they qualify to be good foundation how come someone comes within five years to destory everything done in 30 years. Clear indication that the foundation by MCP was not good enough. Its not a matter of structures that forms foundation of the country but systems which are in place where MCP greatly and misearably fialed on this, furthermore, MCP was busy enjoying succeSs of colo which i bileieve it was achieved beyond scope of party itself (We can not fullly attribute it to MCP). Just to give you example, MCP had no clear succesion plan. Therefore, MCP greatly failed and contributed signficantly to current poverty situation of MALAWI just like any other party in Malawi (We are just comparing chickens of the same colours ).

      1. i think you do not know what you are talking about, it takes so many years to build and take just seconds to destroy so if you are saying the foundation was poor i totally disagree with you. it is your thinking that it poor .Kamuzu did his best and some of you that say he did nothing you went to schools that were built during Kamuzu shame on you

    2. UDF build a very good road from limbe to muloza, the only beautiful bridge on shire river in Mangochi thyolo district hospital chiradzulu district hospital mzuzu central hospital mzuzu high court building karonga Columbia chimera road liwonde ntaja namwera Mangochi road just to mention a few so learn to give credit where its deaw Bingu failed to build even a single district hospital kumayamika

  8. On the part of moving 4ward we cannot agree with u sir, unless we are all fools n stupid! I mean how can we accept a leader chosen by tipp-ex huh?

  9. This old man has reached a crisis level of hallucinations. He is proudly attaching his evil DPP to development when it is clear DPP is taking Malawi back to pre-colonial backwardness.

Peter Mutharika, go back to teaching half-baked lawyers so maybe you can salvage your status. You are not a suitable prescription for Malawi’s ailment. I have tried my level best to be nice to you and please take heed to my advice. Your government is full of fake people with fake qualifications but and yet are the worst plunderers of Tax-Payers’ money in history.
