Mutharika embracing life outside State House

Peter Mutharika – a man who once said that “Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will rule Malawi over my dead body ” – is embracing life outside State House after being defeated in June 23 elections by MCP leader Lazarus Chakwera.

Mutharika appears well and relaxed at his Namiyasi retirement home

‘Nyekhwe Palace’: Mutharika’s Mangochi private residence

Mutharika, 80, who has been a one term president, is at his private luxurious retirement residence at Namiyasi in Mangochi together with his wife, former first lady Gertrude Maseko Mutharika.

The ageing former president wants to lead a private life but continues to lead the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

DPP vice-president (East) Bright Msaka, who served as Justice Minister, on Wednesday led the party’s top leaders to visit Mutharika.

Msaka said Mutharika looked in high spirits and relaxed which shows he is embracing life outside the State House.

“I am happy to find the president [of DPP] and the former first lady Gertrude Mutharika in a jovial and relaxed mood,” said Msaka.

“We have cracked jokes, chatted and discussed pertinent issues regarding our party, among other issues without noticing sad moments from him and his wife,” said Msaka.

Mutharika had earlier refused to concede defeat but finally capitulated despite not congratulating his successor President Lazarus Chakwera.

It was clear Mutharika had become unpopular in Malawi.

For many the economic woes, corruption, cronyism, nepotism, and impunity over which he presided had become intolerable.

Kkkkkk mutharika was right to say mcp shall never rule the country. Did mcp won the 2020 elections? the answer is absolutely NO! what won during the 2020 presidential elections is the TONSE alliance so do not mislead malawians that mcp won the elections and you mcp supporters just shut up your mouth for u r not in govt rather the tonse alliance is the one ruling

You are a dunderhead and very stupid, useless cadet! Even your English is very poor. Did MCP won..? KKKKKK what kind of English grammar is this? Please go back to school and learn to say ‘Did MCP win…”. By the way, did the ballot paper have Dr Chakwera as Tonse Alliance torchbearer or as MCP torchbearer with a symbol of the Black Cock? Is Tonse Alliance a political party? Surely you need to go back to school in order for you to start understanding issues, both political and apolitical! You are a mere time waster and an attention seeker!!!!!!

Please give the pensioner a break. He won the 2019 May 21 election fair and square and even the EU, USA, SADC, the Commonwealth observers agree.
He does not agree he stole votes. Fortunately the “Judges told us “Tivotanso”😊😊😊

Do not forget that the election was competed in the name of MCP and not Tonse Alliance which name theJane Ansah MEC refused.
Therefore it was MCP that won the election.

Just know that with the new electoral law 50%+1 no party can claim to win the presidential race alone even Chilima knows this. To tell Chilima that you should get out of Tonse alliance in order to punish MCP is a non starter because UTM alone cannot win unless if UTM will partner the mafia party DPP.

MCP as a party will not win an election in Malawi. What we have is Tonse Alliance Government not MCP government. So Mutharika was right. No one can vote MCP into Government

Kkkkk walira cadet. Mmesa DPP formed an alliance with UDF? Why didn’t they win? Because nobody with a sane mind and who is not mbava would vote for that alliance. And you’re forgetting that DPP has never won an election, all they knew was stealing the votes. Ask the late Mbendera, the disgraced Jane Ansah and mbava Jean Mathanga. With all the exposé that is going on right now, DPP has lost credibility. Do you even hear the father of corruption Bakili Muluzi talking right now? Nope! Because he is pissed off that he didn’t steal enough compared to DPP… Read more »

History is made and no one can deny it and once upon time we had the Liberator = Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda from the Chewa Tribe he ruled this nation for 30 solid years with his one party type of government = If I were a good teacher I would give him the following rates, Democracy = 0, Economy = 90%, Quality of Education = 95%, Quality of Health facilities = 65%, Agriculture = 99%, Human Rights = 1%, Infrastructure Development = 50%. Dr. Bakili Muluzi from the Yao tribe, nicknamed as a Chair – he brought in the multiparty… Read more »

Waona bvuto lako Kaitano??? if you can remember very well I told you that, I myself I will live to respect elected Leaders from God – but at that time Chakwera was not a leader of this Country but he was a Leader of MCP/UTM Alliance and therefore I was required to respect the then incubent Leader who was APM. I have an obligation to recognaise Dr. Chakwera as my Leader/President and him as my Leader has an obligation of fulfilling what he promise to as ALL. Let me warn you Kaitano if you continue to sow the spirit of… Read more »

Yes indeed your opinion. Opinions are good or bad depending on the strength of one’s brains. Yours apparently seem very weak. By the way why Dr Chakwera. What happened to yona. You see now what people power can do.

Listen everything has got time and we should learn to live according to time – in whatever way you will try to provoke me I will not take revenge because God has answered the prayers of most Malawians and who am l to dishonor the answer of God. But the problem remains with you because you have that inner spirit of hatred that spirit will not lead you any were but to hell. .

Which infrastructure development did Bakili do? All he did was to change names on Kamuzu’s infrastructure development. In addition, economy, education, agriculture and quality of health facilities all completely deteriorated during Peter Mutharika. To give him those grades you must have been one of the beneficiaries of government looting. Farming went down due to expensive farm inputs and that’s why there was hunger every year. Education is in a pathetic state unless one can afford to send kids to private school. Tuition in colleges and universities is a non starter. Poor students can no longer afford to go to university.… Read more »
