Mutharika met the candidates on Friday at Sanjika Palace.

According to one candidate who attended the meeting, the mood was subdued  after the President. caused a stir among DPP top brass when he unveiled Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development Everton Chimulirenji as his runningmate.

But Mutharika remain defiant that he will lead DPP to a landslide victory.

He maintained that DPP is set “to take Malawi to new heights.”

Mutharika said he looked forward to five more years of improving the economy, businesses, quality of life, creating a skilled Malawi, opening new companies, creating more jobs for the youth, industrialising Malawi and empowering farmers, among others.

He said in his last five-year term, DPP has set the stage for making Malawi a prosperous nation.
