Mutharika welcomes 3 to DPP: Bagus, Chikago and Chiwanga

President Peter Mutharika has called for unity of purpose in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to ensure the party wins May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections.

Mutharika made the call on Friday at Sanjika Palace grounds when addressing a mammoth crowd that welcomed him from Lilongwe, emphasizing the need for DPP followers to work together to win with a landslide in the 2019 elections.

“The battle has started and we need to unite and fight for the party. We have one enemy and that is the opposition that is geared to stop all the development projects.

“We should not allow the country to slide back as the opposition wants to stop the Malata and Cement Subsidy, the community technical colleges and infrastructure developments the DPP is currently doing,” said Mutharika.

The President, therefore, urged DPP loyalists to start going into the grassroots drumming up support for the party to ensure victory at the May 21, 2019 polls.

“Its time for us to go into the villages and districts soliciting support for us to carry the day during the elections,” he added.

During the address, Mutharika also welcomed former deputy Secretary General for DPP, Salim Bagus who recently left the Malawi Congress Party, former Ambassador to Japan, John Chicago and Francis Chiwanga into the party.

In his remarks, Bagus said he has returned to the DPP after being satisfied with the development the party has done in his home area, Chikwawa.

“The president has managed to construct the Chapananga Bridge, East Bank Road and a community technical college. Moreover, MAREP has reached my home area, Ndirande where a total of 10,000 people have been connected to the electricity grid,” said Bagus.

Bagus said all the development projects implemented in Chikwawa alone was evidence that the DPP had no match and would easily walk over during the 2019 general elections.

On his part, John Chikago also committed his support to the Democratic Progressive Party in Ntcheu.

“We want development in Ntcheu and I have assured people from Ntcheu that it is only the DPP that can provide such developments,” said Chikago.

  4. A point of correction Bagus. Mutharika did not construct Chapananga bridge, and neither did he build a Community college. These were built by the Malawi Government using money from Malawi Taxpayers who include MCP members.

    And don’t lie about MAREP and 10,000 people being connected in Chikwawa. Yes, they are being connected, but at ESCOM Snails Pace.

    Who dies not know Bagus? His efforts to make money failed and he, together with young Chiwanga and Chikago took DPP’s bait of Kmillions, money corruptly acquired.

  9. Bagus is an opportunist and has nothing to offer. Chicago is broke and wants to have the cake. Chiwanga is a nobody and broke. Like Brown Mpinganjira, all broke old politicians trying to make ends meet, scavenging our taxes. All three have nothing to offer. They failed. They are all past the sell-by date.

    UTM, is for fresh blood and fresh politics. Come 21 May, all these opportunistic politicians will be thrown on the pile of scrap heap. Nasty people who have no empathy for the masses.

    If we ask Bagus, Chiwanga and Chicago what they have contributed to the country – nothing. Malawi is where it is now because of these people who have never proved their wealth. All they want is to fatten their pockets. My heart bleeds how we allow such people in politics. Let’s all unite and come together. We need to introduce a new law which bans all failed politicians who have brought the country to where it is now from practising politics. That way, we will stop this disease of letting criminals to govern the Malawi.

  11. So all that chaos that you caused to Blantyre traffic where people were stuck in traffic jams from 4 to 10pm was because you wanted to welcome Bagus to DPP? Mr President, you are undeniably being ill advised by the likes of Mchacha, yesterday was a disgrace for the DPP.
