Mzimba mom 16, accused of killing baby arrested
Mzimba police publicist Constable Gabriel Chiona said Shonga is alleged to have killed the baby on Tuesday night at MBC location in the Ngoni stronghold of Mzimba district.
“She placed the 1 and half month baby boy in a pail full of water suffocating her in the process,”said Chiona
According to the police spokesperson Shonga says she decided to end the boys life because she was failing to support him as a single mother.
“She claims she was failing to support the baby, ” said Chiona.
The police say their investigations suggest Shonga was earning a living as a sex-worker hence the baby boy was being seen as a hinderance to her trade.
Linda Shonga who comes from Londowala Botha village in the area of Inkosi Mmbelwa will be taken to the court of laws to answer charges of infanticide which may land her in jail for fourteen years if found guilty.
