NAM sponsor Ravi applauds First Lady for Malawi Queens morale boost
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) new sponsors Rach Family Trust has commended First Lady Gertrude Mutharika for extending a wonderful gesture often unheard of in the corridors of power when she put aside her stately comforts by surprising the Malawi Queens with a visit and participated in a full blown training session.
The Malawi Queens are currently ranked 6th in the world and in training camp training for the Africa Netball Championship to be held in Uganda from 24th – 30th June this year.
Ravi Rach, the trust’s chairperson , who has a deep passion for sport in Malawi expressed his delight upon hearing this development.
“Netball is a beautiful sport and The Queens are just brilliant. Her Excellency Gertrude Mutharika is leading by example like other exemplary first ladies – Jeannette Kagame of Rwanda, Ana Paula dos Santos of Angola, and Dominique Folloroux Ouattara of Ivory Coast in empowering their nations.
“What I read in Nyasa Times and the discussions I had with Malawians on the ground is really inspiring. Her Excellency has put aside standard protocol and showcased her compassion and humility to visit the Malawi National Netball Team and train with them,” he said from his London base.
Rach further added: “Women and girls are the cornerstone of development, it is they who have given us life, it is they who strive every day to empower the young and it is they who are the pillars that hold our communities together. To see her visit the netball team not as a public figure but as an equal-women will have inspired, motivatedthem and many others.’’
The Rach Family Trust are working together with NAM on the Uganda championships.
The United Kingdom-based trust signed a five-year deal with NAM worth K600 million.
Ravi also promised to construct a modern in-door netball court as per NAM’s request.
They willalso identify a sports management company to facilitate deals in Europe for Malawi Queens’ outstanding players.
Ravi said as a trust, they were impressed with the Queens’ performance in world tournaments.
