Officer in charge for Luchenza Police Isaac Mlowoka explained that police swiftly arrested the uncle, Dilu Chipakasa after the boy, Asima John, lodged a complaint with the police that the uncle issued threats against him.

“He told us that as soon as the uncle arrived from Lilongwe where he stays, he went straight to the river where John was taking a bath with friends. He told us that Chipakasa called him ‘yellow man’ before saying he would sell him off, so we went and arrested the uncle immediately,” said Mlowoka.

However,  Mlowoka said soon after the arrest, the boy’s mother and other relatives stormed the police station demanding the release of the uncle, saying the boy was naughty and troublesome and he did not want to take advice after the uncle told him to stop his bad behaviour of selling off his mother’s property.

“The boy had been selling the property of his mother for some time and this angered his uncle who told him to stop this. In the process, the two picked up a quarrel and the boy decided to lie against his uncle to deal with him.

“He confessed to us that the uncle never said he would sell him off and he actually apologised to the uncle in the presence of his mother and other relatives,” said the officer in charge.

Mlowoka, however, said after the apologies, a quarrel started again when they arrived at home.

The officer in charge said the police arrested the uncle and charged him with conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

He is expected to appear in court Friday, to answer the charge, a trivia charge that if found guilty, he can pay a maximum of K1000 fine.
