In a swift move since the shock resignation of Gilbert Chirwa, Bullets FC have moved to appoint veteran mentor Lyold Nkhwazi as caretaker coach.
Chirwa resigned on Saturday after a humiliating 0-3 defeat at the hands of the rejuvenated Azam Tigers.
But an emergency meeting for Bullets top officials on Monday resolved to make Nkhwazi caretaker coach .
Chirwa in a post match interview told reporters that he could not take it anymore and has been let down by his players and was resigning since he was not employed and was just helping the team.
This development forced top management to call for an emergency meeting to map the way forward and resolved to trust the headship mantle to Nkhwazi who was Chirwa’s assistant.
According to a well placed source, Nkhwazi – the former Dwangwa United and Blackpool mentor – will be assisted by team manager Chancy Nsema while veteran player Fundi Akidu takes over the team manager role for now.
“The meeting agreed that the three should take up the new roles as top management plans to talk to Chirwa since he is yet to hand in his resignation formally” he said.
The source told Nyasa Times that the management has so much faith in the three to deliver and help the team rediscover their form for now.
He says the management will meet Chirwa before the end of the week to talk over his resignation.
