Ntaba tips Chief Kabudula family on succession: ‘Don’t involve courts’
Presidential adviser Hetherwick Ntaba has tipped the family of late Senior Chief Kabudula in Lilongwe to choose a successor by discussing amicably and not to depend on the courts.
Ntaba speaking on behalf of President Peter Mutharika at funeral ceremony Wednesday afternoon at Demela Headquarters, Kabudula Trading Centre in Lilongwe, said the courts do not have solutions to chieftaincy issues.
Senior Chief Kabudula died on Sunday.
Ntaba, who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for Central Region, said the country has lost a leader who wanted development for Malawi.
He said the most painful thing was that President Mutharika had been together with Senior Chief Kabudula and some fellow government officials until his death.
Mutharika condoled the bereaved family with K300,000.00 and some food items, Vice President Dr Saulosi Chilima was also in attendance at the burial ceremony as well as MCP President and Leader of Opposition, Lazarus Chakwera, whose attendance was not recognised in any of the salutations.
Bambo Chigaga on behalf of Chewa King Gawa Undi, Paramount Chief Lundu, Principle Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Dakamau described Senior Chief Kabudula’s demise as the most heart breaking experience to the family, friends and to the people of Lilongwe North West.
Chief Masamba Nkhunda of Lilongwe also said the death of Senior Chief Kabudula had left them hopeless and helpless as he was the sole strong pillar of the village as far as provision of essential needs to members of the community was concerned.
“Our backbone is broken and as a community and family, we can’t stand up any more with this shocking incident,” mourned Chief Masamba Nkhumba.
Senior Chief Kabudula was installed as Traditional Authority (T/A) Kabudula on 19th September, 1998 and he was elevated to Senior Chief Kabudula on March 2, 2016 by President Mutharika.
Senior Chief Kabudula has died at the age of 69 and is survived by 13 children and 24 grandchildren.
