Phumeni Jele: New Malawi reggae star in South Africa
Reggae has been part of Malawi music for sometime now. Over the years we have seen the coming up of reggae stars that have produced music of international standards. However, there is one Malawian artist in South Africa – Phumeni Jele – who has come up with a unique a reggae album which is enjoying the airwaves in South Africa radio station.

Jere born in Mangochi , may be a new name to most Malawians but he has put Malawi on map as he has became famous in South Africa for his music style and his 13 track new album which was released recently and is being played and favoured by most radio stations including METRO FM.
The reggae artist dropped his first album “Osawuka Onjoya” in earlier this year which featured the hit song ‘Border Visa’ -the song that managed to get into the charts in top radio’s in South Africa.
He started music in his earlier stages of life in 1986 in Mangochi when he was singing in Jele family choir at SDA church.
Jele is planning to organize some shows in Malawi as one way of introducing himself back home.
“I want to bring my music back home and I will organize some few shows in Malawi by the end of this year so people can appreciate my skills,” said Jele.
